As a seasoned Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCG) enthusiast with decades of collecting and battling under my belt, I must say that the new Pocket version has been quite a rollercoaster ride so far. While it’s impressive to see some players hitting level 50 in such a short time, the rewards for reaching this milestone are somewhat lackluster, to put it mildly.
The recently released Pokemon TCG: Pocket version has only been out for a few weeks, yet some players have already reached the maximum level of 50 in the game. Currently, there’s no way to progress beyond this level, as the game does not offer additional rewards after reaching level 50. This might change at some point down the line, but for now, that’s just how it stands. The game doesn’t offer any significant rewards for hitting level 50 either; according to YouTube content creator Jumanne Pokemon Pocket, the rewards are merely 12 Pack Hourglass, 12 Wonder Hourglass, 1 Rewind Watch, and 2 Poke Gold.
In the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, though the benefits are minimal, achieving level 50 swiftly is an unlikely scenario due to the substantial financial investment rather than just devoting time to the game’s free content. Some enthusiasts have debated that this amounts to “pay to win,” but since there’s no tangible advantage in reaching higher levels, it leans more towards being the antithesis. The monetization aspect of Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket deserves discussion, but thus far, the game has maintained a relatively fair balance when it comes to battles. It will be intriguing to observe whether the developers decide to remove the level cap in the future, allowing players to continue earning rewards even without improvement over time.
These rewards certainly have their value. For instance, Hourglasses, Rewind Watches, and Poke Gold serve as effective tools for enhancing your collection of cards within the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. As you progress in the game, these rewards can facilitate the process of opening more packs or acquiring cards via Wonder Trade. It’s important to note that The Pokemon Company is actively developing the game, so there’s a good chance the level limit may be increased, as was the case with Pokemon Go.

Although it’s uncertain whether higher level caps will be implemented in the game, there are definite updates coming up within the next few months. In December, Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket is set to introduce some novel booster packs. The subsequent month will see a new trade feature introduced into the game. Regarding card trading, we don’t have extensive details yet. However, The Pokemon Company has confirmed that only “specific cards” will be eligible for trading initially, and the developers aim to increase the number of tradeable cards progressively over time.
