New SNES Secret Discovered by Nintendo Fans Decades Later

As a gamer who grew up during the SNES era, I can confidently say that this newfound secret in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest is a testament to the timeless appeal of these classic games. The SNES, with its iconic library and nostalgia-inducing charm, has always been a contender for the title of the greatest Nintendo console, and discoveries like this only serve to strengthen that argument.

As a longtime Nintendo enthusiast, I’ve recently stumbled upon an intriguing revelation concerning the SNES, a discovery made by fellow fans decades after its initial release in the 20th century. The question of which Nintendo console reigns supreme has been the topic of many heated debates among us. While the DS holds the title as the best-selling Nintendo console to date, it’s clear that the Nintendo Switch is on a trajectory to overtake this position within the next couple years. Yet, it’s fair to say that neither the Switch nor the DS would be crowned the greatest Nintendo console ever by many of us hardcore fans.

Among the most frequently heard exclamations is the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System). This console isn’t just steeped in nostalgia, but its game library, pound for pound, stands among the most remarkable in gaming history. One of the beloved series from this time period is the Donkey Kong Country series, which debuted in 1994 with Donkey Kong Country. However, I’d like to focus on a secret aspect related not to Donkey Kong Country itself, but its sequel that followed in 1995, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest.

30 years post its launch, a user named TNKT_Kong (who uses X) has found an undisclosed command within the pause screen of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest. The method behind this discovery remains unclear, but it certainly is a fresh and exciting revelation.

On the pause menu, if players simultaneously press Right and Y, followed by Left and A, then Up and B, and finally Down and X, they can instantly move back to the map screen, regardless of whether or not they’ve finished the current stage. The reason behind this secret command within the game remains a mystery.

Since its re-release on the Game Boy Advance in 2004, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest hasn’t had a fresh launch. However, it was added to the Virtual Console for both the Wii (in 2007) and the Wii U (in 2015). Most recently, it can be played on Nintendo Switch Online, offering the original SNES version, rather than the Game Boy Advance one.

Currently, Nintendo has yet to provide a response regarding the matter at hand. Similarly, individuals associated with the game’s development in the 1990s have been silent on this topic as well. Should any new information emerge, we will promptly update our story. In the interim, for additional Nintendo news, rumors, and exclusive deals, please follow this link.
