As a lifelong Marvel fan, the upcoming showdown between Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom has me absolutely giddy with excitement! It’s not every day that we get to witness such iconic characters collide on the comic book page, let alone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In February, fans will get to witness the aftermath when the colossal Red Hulk clashes with the upcoming major antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Excitement is building as a new Red Hulk series kicks off this coming February. Coincidentally, this month also marks the entrance of Red Hulk into the MCU for the first time in “Captain America: Brave New World.” With Harrison Ford portraying General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the stage is set for an action-packed February. However, a formidable opponent is needed to match the might of Red Hulk, and Marvel has chosen to bring in Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., as a powerful adversary, also known as the Supreme Sorcerer of the Marvel Universe.
For those who haven’t been following the recent changes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that Robert Downey Jr. will play the villainous Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”. With the upcoming appearance of Doom, his character from the comics is undergoing a significant transformation, beginning with him taking over the mantle of the Sorcerer Supreme from Doctor Strange. In the upcoming limited series titled “The Ascension of Doctor Doom“, Victor Von Doom equips Spider-Man with enchanted armor and supernatural abilities. This marks the commencement of his dominion over the Marvel Universe as “Emperor Doom”. The story unfolds when he seizes control over all global broadcasting systems, prompting Earth’s greatest heroes to react.

It’s intriguing to observe how “One World Under Doom” unfolds, as Marvel has already revealed several related titles. Among these are “Red Hulk” and “Thunderbolts: Doomstrike”. The latter features a confrontation between Bucky Barnes’ newly formed Thunderbolts team and the original group led by Baron Zemo, much like how “Red Hulk” is timed with the upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie. Additionally, Deadpool and Wolverine will join forces in the “One World Under Doom” tie-in titled “Weapon X-Men”.

The iconic actor, Harrison Ford, is set to make his appearance in the MCU in a much-awaited part. Ever since William Hurt’s portrayals, fans have yearned to witness Thaddeus Ross transform into Red Hulk, and now that desire will be fulfilled in Captain America: Brave New World. This film isn’t the end of the road for Red Hulk; as long as Harrison Ford continues his role, we can anticipate seeing much more of Red Hulk in the future.
When Robert Downey Jr. takes on the role of Doctor Doom in Marvel, it’s inevitable that the character’s prominence in the comics will increase to match. By 2025 and beyond, you can expect Doctor Doom to be a common sight throughout the Marvel Universe. Given that he was part of the Guardians of the Galaxy team, it wouldn’t surprise us if he joined forces with the Avengers next.
