One Tree Hill’s Paul Teal Dead at 35: Bethany Joy Lenz Pays Tribute

As a dedicated fan who has followed One Tree Hill since its early days, this news of Paul Teal’s passing feels like a punch to the gut. I still remember him lighting up the screen as Josh, that charming yet troubled character he portrayed so effortlessly. His time on the show was brief but impactful, and his departure left a void that couldn’t be filled.

The One Tree Hill cast is mourning the loss of one of their own.

On November 17th, Emilia Torello, who was Paul Teal’s partner, announced on Instagram that Paul had passed away on November 15th after a long struggle with his health. He was 35 years old.

On a deeply sorrowful note, I find myself compelled to share the heartbreaking news: “On Friday, November 15, 2024, the most compassionate, motivational, ambitious, disciplined, and loving individual, who held a special place in my life as my soulmate, soon-to-be spouse, rock, and future, departed from us.

She continued that amid her grief, she will honor his memory.

Though a piece of my heart perished with you, I vow to strive for happiness just as fiercely as you did for living each day, Emilia said. “The world was fortunate to share even the briefest moment with Paul Teal, and I am the most fortunate person, because I had the privilege of calling him mine. My love for you will endure eternally.

Bethany Joy Lenz, known for her role in a drama alongside Paul, as well as Sophia Bush, James Lafferty, Jana Kramer, and others, took to social media to express her condolences following his demise.

Bethany shared on her November 17th Instagram post that she feels deeply saddened. Paul Teal had an incredible knack for filling any space with warmth and joy effortlessly. His radiant grin, contagious chuckle, and generous spirit made everyone yearn to be around him.

43-years-old, she reminisced about her initial encounter with Paul, which occurred during their collaboration on a stage play of “The Notebook ” back in 2006. She also shared thoughts on working alongside him, even directing an episode of “One Tree Hill” in 2010.

She elaborated, “He was both bashful and amusing, yet completely at ease on stage, as if it were his natural habitat. He captivated the audience so much that you couldn’t look away from him. At a later point, I was thrilled to be in charge of directing an episode for One Tree Hill, giving me the opportunity to introduce a new recurring character, Josh—the charismatic yet dubious movie star.

Bethany highlighted that “Paul’s humility-laced humor and ability to immerse himself completely into any role made him ideal for the part.

Throughout his acting career, Paul was part of a seven-episode stint in the series “One Tree Hill”. During this time, his character had a romantic involvement with Alex, portrayed by another character, before eventually revealing that he is gay.

Additionally, he graced the screen in the 2022 movie “Deep Water” alongside Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas, as well as starring in two episodes of “Outer Banks” during 2021. Moreover, he secured several other minor acting roles too.

In her post, Bethany said that having Paul around was like experiencing a summer romance for everyone who knew him. She also regretted not maintaining contact with the actor. Moreover, she stated that even though it was just for a short time, it was intense, thrilling, emotionally impactful, and something we’d never forget.
