As a seasoned Dancing with the Stars contestant and a woman who has seen her fair share of challenges, I can’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy for some of these celebrities. It’s one thing to navigate the treacherous waters of reality TV or the NBA, but quite another to learn the cha-cha on national television!
Danica McKellar is glad to have her dance shoes off.
Approximately ten years following her performance on “Dancing with the Stars” Season 18, which featured a cast member from “The Wonder Years”, she opened up about the less-than-glamorous aspects of participating in the show.
Danica clarified to Cheryl Burke during their Nov. 17 podcast, “Sex, Lies and Spray Tans,” that it’s far more challenging than what appears in product packaging due to the stress involved, and she believes it would dampen the enjoyment for listeners if they knew how difficult it truly is.
She went on to say, “I’ve never experienced training as intense as this before, not even close. You’re about to dance in front of an audience of 20 million people. And now, I’m dressed up, and everything feels unusual.
The dance transitions for the Winter Palace contestant, who was sent home along with partner Val Chmerkovskiy in week eight, felt abrupt, similar to moving from a graceful foxtrot straight into a lively samba.
She confessed that she wasn’t aware of what she was undertaking. Pressure was something I couldn’t afford to experience. The weight of expectation was immense, and it ultimately overwhelmed me. I cried because I didn’t have the skills to manage such intense stress.
Despite her hardships in the competition, she is grateful for the strength it gave her.
Danica expressed that Val was tough on her, but she found strength in the experience. She’s thankful for Val because she enjoys facing challenges and stepping out of her comfort zone, so she appreciates situations like that.
Yet, she mentioned that she had put in a tremendous effort to achieve her best, yet always felt under-skilled.
It was an especially difficult experience to grapple with because she had always loved dance.
The 49-year-old expressed that it was similar to loving chocolate so much that someone immerses you in a giant vat of it and keeps your head submerged. That’s what Dancing with the Stars feels like, he said, and occasionally, there’s a chance to catch your breath. It’s an unyielding experience.
Apart from Danica, it’s not just her who has shared that their time on Dancing With the Stars was connected to a stressful phase in their life. In fact, Zendaya has admitted before that she hasn’t watched Dancing With the Stars since she and Val ended up as runners-up in 2013.
She confessed during her recent interview on The Awardist podcast that she hasn’t watched Dancing With the Stars since her participation in the show. Prior to joining Dancing With the Stars, she seldom watched it.
But being on the series didn’t inspire a newfound love for the show either.
She remarked that it was quite an anxious ordeal, and she found herself thinking, “I might not continue watching this.
