Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Creators Want Show to Follow Harry Potter in a Big Way

As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours immersed in both the magical world of Harry Potter and the galaxy far, far away, I am beyond excited for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew! The creators’ intention to follow the growth trajectory of young characters, much like the Hogwarts gang, is music to my ears. It’s about time we saw the evolution of characters in the Star Wars universe, something that has been somewhat lacking so far.

The upcoming book “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” is venturing boldly into the realm of young adult-centric stories within the “Star Wars” Universe. Similar to all “Star Wars” content, this new piece is crafting its unique narrative while also setting the stage for a wider narrative thread throughout the franchise. In terms of developing characters from their youth into adulthood, no series has done it quite like “Harry Potter” – and that’s the roadmap Jon Watts and Christopher Ford (creators of Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Home Trilogy”) aim to follow for “Skeleton Crew”.

On the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew press day, Watts and Ford spoke with Chris Killian from ComicBook about potential directions for the show following its initial season.

Watts clarified that we aimed to ensure the initial season stands independently, as a complete story. However, we do have plans for where the narrative might progress in future.

Ford noted that it’s amusing since the children’s growth provides an unexpected narrative, effectively giving us a storyline without extra cost. Consequently, a significant aspect of the Star Wars story will revolve around the kids growing up, which is unique as we haven’t witnessed this process before in the Star Wars universe. For instance, we’ve seen Anakin suddenly become much older, but…

Man, Ford really nailed it! You know, Star Wars hasn’t given us much character development showing how they age significantly over time, aside from Ahsoka Tano. The upcoming series, Skeleton Crew, might just blow our minds by unveiling that the young characters we meet in the New Republic era (which is set post-Return of the Jedi) could end up playing pivotal roles later on in the franchise timeline during the First Order-Resistance war. If that’s the case, witnessing their growth and evolution could be a game-changer for us fans.

Watts mentioned that he’s particularly intrigued by the way the children from Harry Potter grow and adjust to the galaxy as they mature, following their journey into adulthood.
