The highly acclaimed animated anthology series, “Star Wars: Visions,” is set to return for a third season on Disney+. Lucasfilm has revealed an outstanding lineup of Japanese animation studios who will each contribute their distinctive perspective to the galaxy in this upcoming season, as opposed to maintaining the global mix of studios from Season 2.

Similar to the past two seasons, Season 3 of “Star Wars: Visions” comprises nine episodes, each produced by a distinct animation studio, allowing them to express their individual interpretations within the Star Wars universe. With the upcoming season, fans of anime are eagerly anticipating as one of the episodes is being developed by David Production, renowned for creating the popular series “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.” Additionally recognized for productions like “Cells at Work!” and “Fire Force,” David Production is known for their dynamic action sequences, which will undoubtedly be showcased in “Star Wars: Visions” – anticipate breathtaking lightsaber duels from this talented studio.

3D animation leader Polygon Pictures has showcased its exceptional skills in projects such as Knights of Sidonia, Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Resistance. Now, it’s returning to a familiar universe with Star Wars: Visions. Joining the third season is WIT Studio, known for its powerful contributions in critically acclaimed series like Attack on Titan, Spy x Family, and Vinland Saga.

The studios Project Studio Q and ANIMA are the latest additions to our studio lineup. Interestingly, ANIMA, based in Mexico, stands out from the group, as it collaborates with the Japanese animation company Kamikaze Douga on its productions. ANIMA is particularly recognized for Legend Quest (Las Leyendas), marking Netflix’s initial foray into developing an animated series in Latin America. Meanwhile, Project Studio Q specializes in 3D animation and has lent its skills to projects such as Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time.

Four previous winners have been selected to direct the nine short films for Star Wars: Visions Season 3. These studios include Kamikaze Douga, Kinema citrus Co., Production I.G, and TRIGGER. Notably, Kamikaze Douga produced “The Duel” in Season 1, a captivating black-and-white short that combines elements of the Star Wars universe with traditional samurai themes. Similarly, Production I.G will be creating another episode following their previous work on “The Ninth Jedi,” an epic 22-minute piece focusing on the daughter of a lightsaber-smith in a future where Jedi are scarce.

Additionally, we find Kinema Citrus (“The Twins”) and TRIGGER (“The Village Bride”) among the returning studios. Whether these studios plan to create sequels for their cherished short films or present entirely new tales remains uncertain at this point.

Since its release in September 2021, Star Wars: Visions has been expanding the narrative horizons of the Star Wars universe. The anthology style provides a platform for various creators to delve into the franchise’s profound lore from diverse cultural and artistic perspectives. This freedom from strict adherence to canon allows for stories that preserve the emotional depth and core themes of Star Wars, while also presenting fresh, innovative interpretations of the saga.

This method has shown effectiveness, as evidenced by its past seasons garnering positive reviews from critics and winning renowned accolades such as the Emmy Award for Exceptional Individual Achievement in the field of Animation.

Star Wars: Visions Season 3 will jump to lightspeed on Disney+ in 2025.
