Harley Quinn Actor Set to Reprise Their Role in James Gunn’s DCU

As a long-time fan who has followed Alan Tudyk’s career since Firefly days, I couldn’t be more thrilled about his return as Clayface in James Gunn’s DCU, particularly in Creature Commandos. Tudyk’s ability to breathe life into various characters with his versatile acting skills never fails to impress me.

The development of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe has been progressing smoothly. Known for his knack for generating buzz around his projects, Gunn has been actively promoting “Creature Commandos,” set to premiere on December 5th. He’s addressed some rumors about the show, stirring anticipation among fans. The cast has also been granting numerous interviews, and an interesting tidbit was revealed – Alan Tudyk, who previously voiced Clayface in the animated “Harley Quinn” series, will return to voice the character in “Creature Commandos.” Given Tudyk’s extensive background in geek media and his popularity among fans, his inclusion in the DC Universe is indeed intriguing.

As a gamer, I recently sat down for an interview with Rotten Tomatoes about my character in the show, Harley Quinn. Unlike the comedic Harley, this Clayface role is more of a dramatic performance, filled with humor but also action, drama, and raw emotion. Slipping into the voice of Clayface, I portray him as a simpleton, always questioning his purpose: ‘Why am I here? Daddy didn’t love me.’ It’s a complex character, to say the least.

Later on, Tudyk shared the transformation of his character in the series Creature Commandos, stating, “In this version, Clayface is a lethal villain who’s gone rogue. We have an intense battle and he becomes a ruthless murderer. Essentially, it’s the same character. I find it fascinating that DC allows me to portray the same character in two distinct manners, and I appreciate both versions. It was truly wonderful of James to let me play Clayface [in Creature Commandos], as I was overjoyed without even having to ask. I was initially planning to ask when I noticed it on the list, but he informed me that I would be given the opportunity.

In a shift from initial plans, Season 5 of Harley Quinn is delayed from its November 2024 premiere. The storyline finds Harley and Ivy relocating to Metropolis, but it’s unclear if Tudyk’s Clayface will make an appearance in this new setting, or perhaps even in the upcoming Creature Commandos series. This dual role for Tudyk is a first, demonstrating James Gunn’s DCU’s willingness to take risks. The intrigue surrounding Creature Commandos has been growing steadily as it seems poised to be quite exceptional. Although Superman: Legacy remains the most highly anticipated project in the DCU, the recent publicity blitz for Creature Commandos has definitely stirred up excitement for the show.

Tudyk as Clayface is sure to garner the show ever more viewers, as well, and this more violent and dangerous version of the character will allow him to show off his chops.
