As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen more than my fair share of game launches that didn’t quite live up to their potential. *Star Wars Outlaws* was one such title for me – it had all the makings of a stellar space-western adventure, but fell short in execution. However, with the upcoming update 1.4, I’m cautiously optimistic.
Following its debut several months ago, the highly anticipated game Star Wars Outlaws is due for significant updates coming on November 21st. These updates will focus particularly on enhancing the combat and stealth systems, areas that players have been eagerly anticipating changes in for quite some time.
The space-themed Star Wars game titled Outlaws, which was set to release in August, showed great promise initially. However, upon its release, the feedback from critics wasn’t overwhelmingly positive. In our assessment, we noted that “Outlaws” could have been the space equivalent of “Red Dead Redemption 2“, but it fell slightly short.” Many fans were eager for this title to bring the Star Wars scoundrel fantasy to life, especially since Massive Entertainment (known for the Tom Clancy’s The Division series) was in charge. Despite a bumpy start, the team appears dedicated to rectifying the gameplay issues. Currently, they are focusing on improving two of the main concerns highlighted in reviews: stealth and combat.
On the official Star Wars Outlaws website, it was announced by the team and Creative Director Drew Rechner that with Update 1.4, there will be a significant alteration in stealth and combat mechanics. In contrast to before, where stealth was mandatory during missions, players now have the flexibility to carry on with the mission in open combat. This modification implies that if you’re discovered, you won’t be returned to a checkpoint or the beginning of the mission.
As a gamer, I’m excited about the updates coming up! Previously, there were issues with combat in the base game, but it seems they’re addressing those problems head-on. The focus is on enhancing the weapon feel and boosting stats for weapons to make gaming more enjoyable. This overhaul also includes improved modules for Kay’s blaster, such as the Power module now letting me knock enemies out of cover and the Ion module having a longer stun period. Can’t wait to try it out!
These modifications are additionally incorporated in Update 1.4 to reinstate player freedom regarding numerous aspects. For instance, you now have the option to select particular body areas, such as the head, for quicker headshots or to capitalize on an enemy’s vulnerable spots. As previously stated, these alterations will take place starting November 21st.
Previously, in updates such as the one from September, the stealth system underwent adjustments to make it less challenging. Consequently, rolling movements became less conspicuous and detection sensitivity varied across different locations. As a result, levels like “False Flag” became significantly easier to finish, which is beneficial for players who find stealth or its implementation in the game difficult.
Although some players may have found issues with Star Wars Outlaws, it’s worth noting that the game boasted several notable features. As highlighted in our review, the reputation system added a layer of authenticity to the gameplay, making you genuinely feel like an outlaw. Additionally, this title garnered recognition, being nominated for three Game Awards this year: Best Narrative, Best Performance (by Humberly Gonzales as Kay Vess), and Best Adaptability.
It seems that the sales of Star Wars Outlaws may not have met Electronic Arts’ expectations or aspirations. The publisher has yet to disclose exact figures on how many copies were sold at launch and subsequently, but the absence of such information is usually not a positive indicator for a game’s future prospects. Although we can’t enhance the initial sales numbers now, it’s reassuring that the team remains committed to delivering an excellent product and taking fan feedback into account.
