As someone who has dedicated my professional life to advocating for survivors of domestic violence, I find myself deeply saddened by this story. It is heartbreaking to see such a public figure, whom many of us have grown to admire through his dancing prowess on Dancing with the Stars, embroiled in such a distressing situation.
Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev are bowing out of their legal battle.
Approximately three months after the professional dancer from “Dancing With the Stars” was detained on a possible felony domestic violence accusation that did not result in charges, he and the star of “Total Bellas” have decided to put their dual restraining orders behind them, as confirmed by Nikki’s representatives.
According to Nikki’s representative, it was shared with TopMob on November 20 that Nikki (previously known as Nikki Bella) and Artem have mutually decided to withdraw the domestic violence restraining orders against each other. This move is aimed at allowing them to progress with their lives and work together in co-parenting their child effectively.
In my role as a lifestyle advisor, I can confidently say that the ex-pair, who became spouses in the year 2022 and share a 4-year-old son named Matteo, have opted for an amicable resolution to their separation. Instead of pursuing a court battle, they’ve chosen to address their divorce outside the legal system.
The representative stated, “Above all else, Nikki values her son and maintaining confidentiality about him. She expresses gratitude for the outpouring of love and support she’s received throughout this challenging period.
TopMob News has reached out to reps for Artem and has not heard back.
Following the August 29th incident at my home shared with Nikki, I found myself facing an uncertain future. However, after thorough examination of the evidence by local authorities, they decided not to press charges – a decision for which I am deeply thankful and incredibly relieved. This closure brings us one step closer to moving forward and focusing on the dance floor once more.
Later on, Nikki, aged 40, initiated a divorce proceeding against Artem, who is 42, following two years of matrimony in September. In the legal papers she submitted (which were acquired by TMZ), she cited his arrest as the specific date when their marriage officially ended.
On September 30th, the WWE Hall of Famer requested an emergency protective order, alleging that her former partner had physically assaulted her, as reported by TopMob News based on the obtained court documents.
Following the event resulting in Artem’s arrest on August 29, 2024, Nikki has opted to submit a temporary Domestic Violence Protection Order due to concerns for her and her child’s safety. Her representatives shared this information with TopMob on October 4. Although Nikki asked the Napa District Attorney not to press charges against Artem in order to avoid jail time, it is crucial that he faces consequences for his actions. To ensure Nikki and her son’s protection, necessary measures will be taken.
On October 4th, Artem contested the allegations made against him in the restraining order. Furthermore, on October 31st, he presented evidence of lost income to the Superior Court of Napa, arguing that his arrest had put a significant strain on his finances.
Following her false accusation that led to an arrest and mugshot, Artem, who was eventually cleared of any domestic violence charges, expressed in court documents obtained by DailyMail.com that his removal from the faculty list caused a financial loss exceeding $100,000 in income.
He went on to say that she’s known for her anger. I usually keep my cool and steer clear of it. She’d shout, and as far back as August 29th, 2024, she was shouting, chasing me, and even physically attacked me. I didn’t retaliate with violence; I didn’t grab or shout at her aggressively.
Read on to untangle Artem and Nikki’s legal battle since his arrest in August.
Artem Chigvintsev was apprehended around 10 a.m. on August 29, as confirmed by Henry Wofford, spokesperson for the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, to TopMob News. Wofford added that Chigvintsev, a professional dancer from “Dancing With the Stars,” did not resist and was subsequently transferred to the Napa County Department of Corrections. According to online records, he was detained on charges of felony domestic violence, with bail set at $25,000.
On August 29th, at 2:18 PM, the court granted bail for the dance professional, who was subsequently released from custody. This information was verified by Wofford and reported to TopMob News. At this time, no specific court date has been scheduled.
In response to inquiries from NBC News, Wofford confirmed that Chigvintsev was arrested in Yountville, California, but he did not disclose the exact location out of respect for the privacy of the alleged victim. Consequently, the sheriff is also withholding the name, gender, age, and relationship of the alleged victim to Chigvintsev. However, Wofford offered some insights regarding the arrest.
According to an audio clip released by TMZ on August 30th, it was reported that Chigvintsev initially called 911 seeking medical assistance following an altercation where shoes were supposedly thrown at him. However, he later informed the dispatcher that further medical help was no longer necessary. Nevertheless, Wofford explained that even if someone retracts their request for assistance in a domestic violence situation, authorities would still carry out a welfare check to ensure safety. He told Page Six, “Even if someone says, ‘You don’t have to come after all,’ we’re still going to conduct a welfare check. We won’t just halt our investigation.
Since August 30th, I, a fervent admirer, have been eagerly awaiting any word from Chigvintsev regarding the recent events – the arrest and that 911 call. Unfortunately, my beloved TopMob News has extended an inquiry to his representative, yet we’re still waiting for a response.
Chigvintsev was detained just about three weeks before the start of Dancing With the Stars season 33. Interestingly, despite his past victory in the Mirrorball trophy and participation in 12 seasons, he wasn’t part of this year’s cast as reported by Page Six and Variety. So far, ABC hasn’t responded to our request for a comment from TopMob News.
A representative for Nikki Garcia, who first met Artem Chigvintsev during season 25 of Dancing With the Stars in 2017, made a statement about his arrest on August 30. They requested privacy for Nikki and her family during this personal matter.
Following the arrest of Chigvintsev, Cheryl Burke, who retired from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ in 2022 after a long career spanning 26 seasons, expressed her feelings about the situation. Being someone she grew up with and lived with at one point, Burke revealed on her podcast ‘Sex, Lies and Spray Tans’ that she was taken aback by his arrest. She shared on the August 30 episode, which was recorded a day prior, that her heart goes out to everyone affected, stating it’s difficult for her as he was like family to her. Burke expressed hope for everyone’s wellbeing and also shared resources in a clip of her podcast posted on TikTok.
Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley announced on September 24, 2024, that her team would not pursue charges against Chigvintsev after conducting a comprehensive examination of the criminal investigation and weighing the evidence they received.
“If you find yourself or someone close to you in a situation of domestic violence, assistance is at hand. You might want to dial the National Domestic Violence Hotline number 800-799-7233, send START to 88788 as a text message, or visit their website at https://www.thehotline.org/ for help.
On September 25, 2024, Chigvintsev expressed his immense relief and gratitude in an interview with TopMob News, as the domestic violence charge against him had been dismissed.
He confided, “These past times have been incredibly challenging for me,” but I’m grateful that honesty has ultimately triumphed.
The dancer expressed optimism about reaching a shared parenting agreement with Garcia, who has asked for both legal and physical custody of their son Matteo in the divorce papers she filed on September 11.
Chigvintsev expressed that he is eager to advance beyond this stage and concentrate more on what really matters – continuing to be the best dad he can possibly be.
In response to claims made public by TMZ, Garcia successfully requested a protective order from her former partner Chigvintsev, alleging in a petition that on multiple occasions, he had tackled her to the ground in front of their child.
Following Artem’s arrest on August 29, 2024, Nikki has chosen to seek a temporary Domestic Violence Protection Order, ensuring safety for herself and her child. Despite Nikki asking the Napa District Attorney not to press charges against Artem, to avoid imprisonment, he still needs to face consequences for his actions. For the sake of Nikki and her son’s security, appropriate accountability is crucial.
