As a long-time movie buff with a soft spot for classic childhood tales turned horror, I must say the news about the upcoming “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble” has me more than just a little excited! Having grown up with these beloved characters, it’s intriguing to see how they are being reimagined in this unique and terrifying way.
In a surprise turn of events, the Poohverse is being put together more quickly than expected. The dark take on the Winnie-the-Pooh series, known as the “Twisted Childhood Universe,” has seen rapid success with the “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” films. Though the initial movie received mostly negative reviews, the sequel was a significant improvement, and both have proven to be lucrative ventures for Jagged Edge Productions.
The Twisted Childhood Universe is gaining popularity at an impressive rate and shows no signs of diminishing. In the early part of 2025, two new titles – “Bambi: The Reckoning” and “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare” – will be released, furthering the narrative that was started in “Blood and Honey” and leading up to “Poohniverse”. This week, we received an exciting update about the eagerly awaited collaboration movie.
Based on Deadline’s recent report, the filming for Poohniverse is expected to commence within the next few months, specifically starting in March 2025. The exciting news also includes the confirmation that Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble has successfully lined up distribution across the globe.
Rhys Frake-Waterfield is coming back to lead the project for Poohniverse, following his work on the two Blood and Honey films in recent years. Both Frake-Waterfield and Scott Chambers will resume their duties as writers and producers, continuing their involvement from the Pooh movies. Additionally, it’s been announced that Scott Chambers will reappear on screen as Christopher Robin, as he did in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2.
Alongside Chambers’ portrayal of Christopher Robin, it’s anticipated that other well-known actors from the “Blood and Honey 2” movie and other upcoming films in the Twisted Childhood Universe will join the cast. The lineup is expected to include Magan Placate as Wendy Darling, Roxanne Mckee as Nana, Lewis Sander as Tigger, and Martin Portlock as Peter Pan.
Absolutely, viewers can anticipate that beloved characters such as Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and possibly Bambi (who hasn’t appeared on screen before), will reappear in the new series called Poohniverse. The last scene of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 hinted that several characters who seemingly perished, might return to the narrative.
Currently, no specific release dates have been announced for the upcoming films in the Twisted Childhood Universe. However, it’s confirmed that the next two movies to hit the screens will be Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.
Both Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey movies are currently streaming on Peacock.
