Evangelion & Godzilla Fuse in Wild New Official Crossover: Watch

As a seasoned connoisseur of Japanese pop culture and a dedicated enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion since their respective infancies, I must say that the prospect of a Godzilla x Evangelion crossover is as exhilarating as it is perplexing. The idea of these two iconic entities merging in a single, monstrous form is nothing short of mind-boggling.

It appears that the Shin Universe is currently on hold since its creator Hideaki Anno is busy with another project, a reboot of Space Battleship Yamato. However, popular characters like Godzilla and the Evangelion pilots from NERV are once again taking center stage. Previously, we’ve noticed merchandise featuring Shin Universe versions of classic characters such as Godzilla, the Evangelion team, Kamen Rider, and Ultraman. So far, the Shin Heroes haven’t crossed paths in an official film, but they have managed to meet in unforeseen ways. Recently, a video has emerged that teams up EVA Unit 01 with Godzilla, and even more surprisingly, shows them merging into a single fearsome entity.

For the second time, Shin Godzilla, from the latest version of the King of Monsters, has joined forces with NERV’s best. Earlier, Universal Studios Japan developed an attraction where Shin Godzilla battled Neon Genesis Evangelion characters and introduced a fresh monster, Shin King Ghidorah. This character didn’t feature in the original Shin Godzilla movie but was presented at the Japanese theme park. Interestingly, this new version of the three-headed monster is another instance where these two franchises collaborate, leading to the creation of a fusion creature.

In Japan, pachinko machines continue to generate significant income, attracting players to spend time playing them. Taking advantage of this phenomenon, the Shin franchises have teamed up for a new Pachinko game called “Godzilla Vs. Evangelion: G Cell Awakening.” Although an official series or film hasn’t been confirmed yet, the two-minute trailer offers kaiju enthusiasts a glimpse of what could be possible if creator Hideaki Anno decides to merge these characters. However, pachinko machines aren’t popular in North America, making it unlikely that this crossover will make its way westward. Fortunately, thanks to the internet, we can still enjoy the crossover videos online.

A fresh advertisement showcasing Shin Godzilla, Kaiser Ghidorah, and Unit-01 has been unveiled, tied to the “P Godzilla vs. Evangelion: G Cell Awakening” pachinko machine launch.

Godzilla x Evangelion: A Crossover For The Ages

If a Shin Universe crossover were to occur, it would be the first time the characters from Neon Genesis Evangelion are portrayed in live-action, unless creator Hideaki Anno chooses to adapt this potential fusion into an animated series instead. The latest project of Neon Genesis Evangelion, titled Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon A Time, has concluded the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. Although Anno himself hasn’t explicitly stated his intentions to reintroduce the EVA pilots, he has suggested that there might be possibilities for their return in the anime realm in the future.

For fans eagerly awaiting Godzilla’s return, there’s some exciting news and a bit of wait time ahead. On the positive side, it’s confirmed that Godzilla, our scaly sovereign, will make his comeback with a sequel to the latest “Godzilla Minus One”. In North America, Legendary Pictures is busy preparing a third installment in the “Godzilla x Kong” series and also developing a second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters”.

Regrettably, as of now, there’s no confirmation about the return of “Shin Godzilla”. The 2016 movie remains the sole platform where you can experience one of the most terrifying interpretations of Godzilla, the monster king. Here’s hoping that Anno doesn’t leave the Shin universe and that kaiju enthusiasts get to watch an official sequel that will cause a seismic shift on Earth with its epic crossover events.
