As a tech enthusiast who has spent years immersed in the vibrant world of gaming and gadgetry, I can confidently say that Razer’s chromatic crusade has transformed my digital den into an enchanting spectacle, reminiscent of a Christmas wonderland, albeit with a slightly more adult aesthetic.
For quite some time, I was led to believe by the misleading online community that RGB lighting enhances video game performance. However, it seems this notion is universally debunked now. It’s frustrating to be told off for my trust in such a common belief that, according to others, “no one should take seriously.” After all, how could colorful lights boost gaming abilities? But I didn’t fall for an obvious joke; it was the RGB industry that deceived us.
Alrighty then, let’s shift gears! I may not be a pro gamer, but my office PC setup is now top-notch, boasting high-performance, feature-rich, and stunningly illuminated accessories and peripherals. My office has never looked this good, and beyond the RGB lighting, I’ve never experienced such premium PC and gaming gear. I thought it would be cool to show you what I’ve got here, giving you a chance to upgrade your gaming skills (or risk blinding the gods) with all the lights. Alternatively, you can aim to steer clear of the wallet-draining venture that is RGB lighting.
All the glorious RGB products (and my reviews)
I was serious when I mentioned that RGB lights have overtaken my office. At present, there are few items on my desk that don’t incorporate RGB technology in some way. I’ve either reviewed or written about most of these products. If you’re eager to jump straight to “I need everything RGB now,” here’s a comprehensive list, along with some honorable mentions for good measure.
Indeed, this list appears quite extraordinary, but I wholeheartedly endorse each item on it. In fact, I continue to utilize most of them daily. Regarding the BlueAnt Soundblade Under-Monitor Soundbar and HUANUO Single Monitor Arm Mount, they’re missing from the list because they lack RGB lighting – a detail that seems irrelevant in my opinion.
I will give a special shout-out to the HP OMEN Transcend 32 QD-OLED Gaming Monitor, though. This display is a direct competitor to the ASUS monitor in the list above, and I’m in the middle of testing it — but I’m not ready to write my full review. One thing I can already say about this monitor, though, is that it boasts the brightest, most vibrant rear-facing RGB lighting of any monitor I’ve tested, which casts a wide swathe of color across the wall behind it. You can get the HP OMEN Transcend 32 for $1,299.99 $999.99 at Best Buy.
This would be more annoying without Razer’s ecosystem
If you find yourself remarking, “Wow, there are many Razer items,” it’s quite clear. After all, Razer manufactures some top-notch gaming equipment, and their brand is widely recognized. As a result, we often evaluate Razer goods. Furthermore, Razer has the most unified RGB lighting system on the market with Razer Chroma, which makes coordinating this project much easier due to its synergy.
In contrast to what many people think, RGB lighting isn’t just a continuous display of rainbows. On the contrary, it can be quite harsh, especially when an entire office is bathed in such bright colors all year round, which can be rather hard on the eyes. The ease with which you can customize the RGB lighting effects or colors across your entire collection of RGB equipment is one of its main attractions. Razer’s Synapse software (or Chroma standalone app) makes this customization simple and straightforward. Whether you prefer to keep it basic or create your own unique RGB patterns, you can apply these changes to every Razer product linked to your computer with just a single click.
In simpler terms, the Razer Gamer Room isn’t just about gaming accessories; it’s more about setting up smart lights for your home that work with Chroma technology. The advantage is that these lights can be controlled either through your phone or the Razer Synapse app on your PC, all connected via your network. This means you can control your smart lights with just one click in the Razer Synapse app. While many companies are incorporating RGB lighting into their products, Razer stands out for its superior lighting quality and seamless integration with popular smart home ecosystems.
The Lenovo Legion Tower 7i I have serves as an excellent illustration. Now, Lenovo has upgraded this desktop computer to enable personalized adjustment of all its RGB lights (previously only the GPU lights were changeable). However, since you need to open a separate application and make changes to each component individually, my desktop PC often defaults to the “rainbow spectrum” setting.
RGB doesn’t equal better skills, but sometimes RGB does equal better products
As a passionate gamer, I openly acknowledge the countless hours I’ve poured into games like Counter-Strike, VALORANT, Call of Duty, and Halo. Despite this extensive experience, I must confess that I fall short of reaching a “pro” level in any of these games. I’m not one to boast or feel superior; my primary goal is always to enjoy the gameplay.
In my gaming setup this year, every single piece, from my headset to my keyboard and mouse, offers improved spatial information, enhanced responsiveness, and smoother performance compared to last year. To top it off, they all feature RGB lighting. While I can’t definitively say that the improvements are due to the brand’s advancements, I am using higher-end equipment from a company known for continuous product development over the past few years.
It’s common that high-end gaming equipment frequently incorporates RGB illumination. This trend has led some lesser-known brands to add affordable RGB LEDs to their products in an attempt to boost perceived quality, potentially fueling the popular “RGB improves your gaming” joke. Quality gear can indeed enhance your gaming experience, and often includes RGB. Razer is recognized for its top-performing peripherals and accessories, and they’re also famous for aiming to incorporate RGB into virtually everything they produce.
These companies such as Corsair, SteelSeries, and HyperX all create top-notch accessories to elevate your PC gaming environment, and luckily for you, RGB lighting is abundant across their product lines. RGB effects have now become a common feature in the video game industry, and whether you’re a fan or not, these companies offer high-quality products that you can customize (or deactivate) the lighting on according to your preference. As for me, I’m quite content with how my workspace has transformed, even though I’m still struggling to master cable management!
This editorial does come at a good time. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are here, and with it comes endless sales and discounts on the best tech, accessories, and video games. Windows Central is actively tracking all the best deals, and we even have a live hub for all the current Razer deals you should keep an eye on, if you were looking to add more RGB to your setup.
