As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of comic book adventures under my belt, I must say that Yara Flor’s bank-robbing spree in Wonder Woman #15 is nothing short of extraordinary! The audacity and skill she displayed in this epic heist are reminiscent of the legendary bank robberies we saw back in the Silver Age.
The popularity of Wonder Woman has been surging recently, largely due to Tom King and Daniel Sampere’s work on the Wonder Woman series. Their storyline focuses on the struggle between Wonder Woman and the enigmatic ruler of America, the Sovereign. This conflict reached its climax in Wonder Woman #14. Over a period of more than a year, Wonder Woman and the Sovereign engaged in numerous conflicts, with Steve Trevor standing steadfast by Diana’s side. Trevor was often operating behind the scenes, utilizing his influence within the U.S. military to gather information that Diana’s direct approaches couldn’t access. Unfortunately, this covert activity ultimately led to Trevor’s downfall.
In Steve’s strong desire to assist the woman he adored, he accepted an opportunity from the Ruler to collaborate with him. Both Wonder Woman and Trevor recognized it as a trap, but Steve was determined to participate. The Sovereign ultimately ends up killing Steve, prompting Wonder Woman to seek revenge. In “Wonder Woman #15”, we see the initial stages of her vengeful plan unfold. Before his death, Trevor had obtained information which Wonder Woman used to strike at the Sovereign’s weak point – his finances. Donna Troy, Cassie Sandsmark, Yara Flor, and Cheetah were all recruited for this mission, leading to Flor embarking on a series of extraordinary bank robberies.
Yara Flor Decided To Break The Bank – Multiple Times
As a devoted fan, I’ve been following the intriguing saga of the Sovereign’s family during their reign as monarchs of the United States. Over time, they accumulated an astonishing fortune, some of which was mysteriously stashed away on an autonomous warship. In a daring move, Cassie Sandsmark flew a plane straight into this vessel, causing it to sink and potentially losing that portion of the wealth forever.
In this scenario, Flor proved to be an ideal version of Wonder Girl for the heist, showing off her signature humor and cool demeanor throughout the operation. A two-page spread illustrates one of the robberies, where she informs the bank manager about her upcoming actions, gets shot at by a guard, and casually requests them to open the vault, unless they prefer her to smash it open instead. Remarkably, Flor managed to pull off robbing seventeen banks in a single day, with each one being under the watchful eyes of increasingly numerous state and federal authorities as the day progressed. The Sovereign described this act as noble yet futile.
It’s clear that storing America’s valuable treasures in various banks nationwide isn’t the most secure way to protect them. The Sovereign believed that since bank robbery is illegal, the jewels would be safe from those bound by law. However, the Sovereign had used his influence to ban Amazons from entering the U.S. Previously, even if Diana knew about the Sovereign, it was highly unlikely she or anyone else would consider robbing banks as a way to retaliate against him. But with her existence in America illegal, all bets were off. The Sovereign’s actions set Wonder Woman and her allies on a path towards financially ruining him personally, paving the way for Flor to become an exceptionally skilled bank robber.
Yara Flor Is DC’s World Champion Of Bank Robbery
In the Silver Age of the DC Universe, bank robberies were a frequent occurrence, almost happening every month for various supervillains seeking grand heists. Heroes such as Batman, the Flash, and even Wonder Woman often intervened to prevent these thefts. Bank robberies had become a familiar scenario for superheroes. However, Yara Flor’s recent bank-robbing spree is an exceptional case, marking a significant increase in such incidents over a prolonged period.
Flor, a formidable figure resembling an Amazonian warrior, had the ability to force open bank vaults if she chose to act like a typical villain. Yet, Flor’s actions were unlike those of a supervillain. Instead, she entered the banks with openness, declaring her intentions, and offering them choices regarding the outcome. She resorted to violence only when provoked – a move that would have earned applause from Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman #15 is on sale from DC Comics.
