As a devoted cinema enthusiast with a penchant for soaps, I must admit that the return of Hannah Waterman to the world of daytime dramas is an exciting development. Her iconic role as Laura Beale in EastEnders left a lasting impression on me, and I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia at the thought of her reprising her acting skills once more.
Actress Hannah Waterman, famous for her unforgettable portrayal of Laura Beale in EastEnders, will be re-entering the soap opera scene – this time in Australia.
After relocating to Australia a decade ago and featuring in several dramas since then, it’s said that Waterman will soon be seen in the popular show “Home and Away.
As reported by The Sun, Waterman will be portraying a magistrate in upcoming scenes scheduled for airing in the United Kingdom this coming December.
Initially, Waterman appeared on EastEnders as Laura, the spouse of Ian (portrayed by Adam Woodyatt), all the way back in 2000. She remained a prominent figure in the soap opera until her character met an end in 2004 after four years of captivating audiences.
In the climactic moments, Laura stumbled towards the door after tripping on a toy, only to tumble down the staircase and meet her unfortunate end.
In the end, it was a tragic turn for Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) as she faced accusations for murdering Laura, following the discovery of a damning piece of evidence – a receipt – in Laura’s apartment after a heated argument between them.
Without a doubt, the plot surrounding character deaths was a hot topic among fans, and it left an indelible mark on EastEnders lore.
Waterman went on to feature in episodes of Doctors, The Bill, New Tricks and Holby City.
Currently residing in Sydney, Waterman previously appeared in the Australian-Indonesian TV series, “Bali 2002”. However, her return to the captivating realm of soap operas is through the show “Home and Away”.
This year, the Australian soap opera reached its 35th anniversary and honored the event by re-airing episodes on a dedicated television network.
Home and Away, an Australian soap opera, initially aired for the first time on the 17th of January, 1988. In 2000, Channel 5 gained the rights to broadcast it. Since then, they’ve been consistently airing new episodes.
