As a seasoned Doctor Who enthusiast with decades of time-traveling tales under my belt, I must say that this year’s Christmas special has me thoroughly intrigued! The enigma surrounding the plural ‘Worlds’ in the title “Joy to the World(s)” is tantalizing. Could it be a multiversal adventure? Or perhaps a delightful twist on time-traveling hotels, as suggested by Steven Moffat?
Fans of Doctor Who now face another puzzle to unravel as they eagerly anticipate this year’s holiday episode, with the debut of an authentic poster being the latest development.
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the intriguing sci-fi series I follow, broadcast on BBC in the UK and Disney Plus worldwide, has unveiled its holiday special title for this year – “Joy to the World.” Can’t wait to see how they intertwine science fiction with the festive spirit!
In the recently revealed artwork on Disney Plus for Doctor Who Day, the title is written differently, saying “Joy to the Worlds” instead.
Initially, fans speculated that the use of ‘Worlds’ in the plural might be an oversight. However, the official Disney Doctor Who social media accounts have been responding to comments to suggest that there may be more to it than a simple mistake.

In reply to a curious fan’s question about the extra ‘s’ in the title, the @disneydoctorwho Instagram account said, “We won’t spill any secrets.
A different admirer who asked the same question received this response: “Wait until Christmas Day to discover the answer,” and a separate message from the official account stated: “WORLDS? ?? It’s mysterious, you’ll have to watch to find out!
Some people are musing that maybe there’s a twist involving multiple universes, while others are pondering if the UK and global versions of this episode might show slight variations.
Regarding the details we have so far, the episode “Joy to the World(s)” was penned by ex-Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat and features Ncuti Gatwa portraying the Fifteenth Doctor. Additionally, Nicola Coughlan from Bridgerton is cast as a character named Joy.
Previously, Moffat explained the storyline for the episode to BBC South East: “Envision a scenario set in the distant future where a hotel group discovers time travel. You’re probably wondering what the first action a hotel chain would take if they had time travel? They would immediately grasp that they had an opportunity to sell every unsold night in their hotels throughout history.
During Doctor Who Day elsewhere, Moffat participated in a real-time chat session for his recent episode titled “Boom.” Additionally, it was announced that the show would hold its largest auction of props and costumes yet, featuring over 150 items. Moreover, it was confirmed that the final story of the Second Doctor played by Patrick Troughton – The War Games – will be released as a colorized special edition next month.
