Showrunner James Gunn shared this exciting news on his Instagram account over the weekend, accompanied by separate photos of each actor on set. Now that their roles are completed, Gunn shared that just one day of filming remains for the entire season.

Fans were overjoyed to see a photo of Cena sitting at a piano once again, even if the casual behind-the-scenes pictures didn’t tease much of what is coming. Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, and will be a part of the new DCU continuity.
In 2022, the series titled “Peacemaker” premiered on Max (formerly HBO Max). This show is a spin-off from Gunn’s 2021 film “The Suicide Squad,” focusing on the character Peacemaker, portrayed by Cena. In this new adventure, Peacemaker is tasked to work for a different secret organization, A.R.G.U.S. The storyline involves Holland’s character, an A.R.G.U.S. agent who collaborates with Peacemaker on “Project Butterfly.” Other notable actors include Danielle Brooks as the head of A.R.G.U.S., Leota Adebayo, Fredy Stroma as Adrian Chase (also known as Vigilante), Chukwudi Iwuji playing Clemson Murn, the leader of Project Butterfly, Steve Agee as agent John Economos, and Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father, Auggie Smith, also known as White Dragon.
Launching the DCU
Since then, there have been many changes in how DC Comics adaptations are handled, and Peacemaker is one of the few projects that has been carried over from the DCEU to the DCU. Shortly after the announcement of Season 2 for Peacemaker, James Gunn and Peter Safran were promoted to co-CEOs of DC Studios. They have stated that they will continue this series as part of their “soft reboot” plan for the DCU. However, the DCU will officially kick off with a new Superman movie scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent. This film marks the beginning of the DCU continuity.
In August of 2025, you can expect the second season of “Peacemaker” to hit your screens as the second offering from the DC Universe. The precise air date hasn’t been disclosed just yet, but keep in mind that it will be a Max exclusive, and if you haven’t already checked it out, Season 1 is available for streaming on their platform now.
