New PS5 Controller Comes With a Major Oversight That Fans Hate

As a long-time PlayStation enthusiast who has been through multiple generations of consoles, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment with the latest 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge controller. It’s a beautiful piece of hardware, no doubt, and it’s exciting to see Sony celebrating its milestone in such a grand way. However, the color inconsistency issue with the thumbsticks is more than just an eyesore for me – it’s a potential inconvenience that could impact the user experience.

It appears that PlayStation enthusiasts have expressed disappointment over the latest DualSense controller introduced with the new PS5 by Sony. Last week, Sony delivered their lineup of 30th Anniversary PS5 consoles and accessories, which included two versions of the 30th Anniversary DualSense controllers – one for the standard model and another for the DualSense Edge. While both PS5 controllers have caught the eye of many PlayStation fans, it’s the DualSense Edge variant that has a notable flaw.

Users on Reddit (via PlayStation Lifestyle) have pointed out that the sticks of the 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge are distinctly colored compared to the standard version of the premium controller. This difference is expected given the unique design of the 30th Anniversary model, but it could create a problem for those who might need to replace the thumbsticks in the future. Unlike the regular PS5 DualSense, the DualSense Edge comes with thumbsticks that can be effortlessly removed if they start showing signs of stick drift.

The issue here is that Sony only offers replaceable thumbsticks in black on its PlayStation Direct site, while the 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge comes with gray modules. This means if the gray thumbsticks ever need replacement, there’s no matching gray option available to maintain the color scheme of the 30th Anniversary PS5 controller.

In simpler terms, although the 30th Anniversary DualSense Edge isn’t necessarily ruined by this issue, those who bought the new PS5 controller aren’t particularly pleased with the current situation. Some have proposed removing the gray thumbsticks from the controller to prevent stick drift in the future. However, this solution seems counterproductive since one of the main reasons people wanted the DualSense Edge was for its distinct design.

While it may be an issue for some, it’s worth noting that due to the limited production of the DualSense Edge for the 30th Anniversary run, it’s likely that only a tiny percentage of PS5 users have this controller. Therefore, the inconvenience associated with this problem won’t affect the majority of PS5 gamers worldwide.
