3 Things I Need to See From PS5 Pro Before Buying the Console

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, the PS5 Pro has been a tantalizing yet elusive addition to my console collection. While the promise of next-gen graphics and performance is undeniably alluring, I’ve chosen to bide my time for now, much like a patient hunter waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

I’ve held off on buying the PlayStation 5 Pro after it hit the market, much like many others, I presume. Although my TV is well-suited for the new console, I’ve decided to wait longer than usual before making the purchase of the latest PlayStation equipment. So far, I haven’t second-guessed my choice, as there are some early signs about the PS5 Pro that I find a tad worrying.

As a dedicated gaming enthusiast, there are three key aspects about the rumored PS5 Pro that I eagerly anticipate seeing in the coming months, which could ultimately convince me to make the exciting leap and acquire this latest gaming powerhouse.

Better Support From Developers

Among the aspects that worry me regarding the PS5 Pro is its performance with optimized games, particularly in terms of smooth operation. For instance, games like Silent Hill 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor run less smoothly on the PS5 Pro than they do on the standard PS5 versions.

It’s possible these examples could be exceptions rather than the rule, considering the small number of PlayStation 5 Pro-compatible games currently available. This could imply that some developers worldwide are still learning about the nuances of this new console, suggesting potential hurdles for PS5 Pro-optimized games in the near future. In other words, we might experience more growing pains with these enhanced titles over the coming months.

An Actual Killer App

Even though third-party developers have yet to produce games specifically designed for the PS5 Pro, it’s worth noting that Sony’s first-party studios, like Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, and Santa Monica Studio, have been swift in releasing updates for their existing games on PS5 Pro. However, since these titles were primarily developed with the PS4 architecture in mind, the enhancements seen on PS5 Pro might not be as significant as they could have been if they had been designed with the new hardware from the start. I applaud them for their promptness in providing upgrades, such as in The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and God of War Ragnarok.

In the future, it appears that Ghost of Yotei could potentially be the initial significant game from PlayStation specifically designed for optimal performance on PS5 Pro. Ghost of Tsushima, which launched in 2020 and looked stunning on PS4 Pro, is expected to significantly improve when it’s released for PS5 Pro in 2025. Once PlayStation has a standout game like Ghost of Yotei or another title that truly showcases the capabilities of the platform, I’ll be even more inclined to consider purchasing it.

Give Me a Discount of Some Sort

Indeed, the PS5 Pro’s price tag is causing quite a dilemma for many potential buyers like myself. Frankly, I find it hard to rationalize the $700 price at this moment. Therefore, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a sale or discount to make the purchase more palatable.

This sale in question doesn’t even need to come from Sony, either. When I purchased my PS4 Pro, it was thanks to a limited-time offer at GameStop that gave me additional value toward the upgraded hardware if I traded in my PS4. Given how new the PS5 Pro still is, we haven’t seen any deals like this pop up just yet at various retailers and we might now for a few more months. If and when these types of discounts for the PS5 Pro finally begin to happen, that’s likely when I’ll end up pulling the trigger.
