As a seasoned rocker who has seen it all, from the Sex Pistols’ rebellious days to the quieter but still electrifying moments of my later career, I find myself in a unique position to pass judgment on the current music scene. When it comes to Oasis, I must admit, they don’t quite resonate with me.
According to Glen Matlock, former bassist for the Sex Pistols, he declined an invitation to become part of Oasis. He criticized the band for being “dull” and “repetitive”.
Enthusiasts of the band Oasis were thrilled to their core when brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher declared plans for an eagerly anticipated reunion concert tour, which was announced in August.
In a recent interview with NME, Matlock explained his thoughts about the buzz surrounding the 2025 shows: “It’s reasonable if you’re a fan; they have a large fan base.
For me, Oasis often seems reminiscent of Status Quo. Just like with Quo, after hearing one song, it feels sufficient. Similarly, listening to an Oasis song once seems enough for me as they tend to sound quite similar.
He added: “These are acquaintances of mine, friendly individuals indeed. However, I need to choose my words carefully since I run into Noel Gallagher frequently. You see, he resides just a stone’s throw away from where I live.
I find Liam to be simply amazing. His singing abilities are impressive – he has the raw energy of Johnny Rotten yet maintains pitch perfectly. His captivating stage presence is mesmerizing; even when standing still, he manages to hold your attention completely.
“The rest of the guys? No. I think they’re boring live. I’d never go to see ‘em.”
He mentioned that there were discussions about him assisting them with bass back in 1995 or 1996. However, they later resolved the issue they had with the individual handling it at that time.
I received an invitation to catch their performance at Earl’s Court, but I decided to leave because it was dull. Later, I attended another show featuring them in upstate New York along with Blondie’s Clem Burke. Frankly, I was eager to go.
For the first time since their split in August 2009, the Oasis brothers are set to perform together again on their upcoming tour.
