Wicked: Part One breaks multiple box office records with huge opening figures

As a longtime enthusiast of musical theater and a fervent admirer of the magical world of Oz, I must say that the success story of Wicked has left me utterly enchanted! The sheer magnitude of its box office triumph, shattering records left and right, is nothing short of astonishing.

The musical “Wicked” has achieved remarkable global box office success, with its enchanting reinterpretation of the witches from Oz shattering numerous opening weekend records.

Based on data reported by Deadline, I’m thrilled to share that the opening of Wicked saw a tremendous response domestically with an impressive $114 million, while globally, it raked in a staggering $164.2 million!

The musical film shattered 16 records during its box office run, among them setting new highs for both global and domestic openings for films adapted from Broadway shows. It surpassed the worldwide debut of Les Misérables ($103 million) and the domestic launch of Into the Woods ($31 million).

In a remarkable turn of events, “Wicked” set new records as both its worldwide and domestic debuts surpassed previous highs for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. This achievement exceeded the initial $12 million domestic box office take of “Widows,” which previously held the record for Cynthia Erivo.

Additional data reveals that Stephen Schwartz’s musical feature boasted the largest initial release, setting a new record. Similarly, director Jon M Chu achieved the highest global and domestic debuts ever recorded. Moreover, this film adaptation of a Broadway musical garnered the biggest first-day earnings with a gross of $46.4 million.
