Fate/strange Fake’s English Dub Now Streaming for Free (and for Very Limited Time)

As a seasoned fan of the Fate series, I must say that Fate/strange Fake has truly stolen my heart! Having been birthed from an April Fool’s joke and grown into a beloved entry, this spin-off masterfully alters the familiar Fate formula in ways that the franchise desperately needed.

Hailing from the same title as its light novel source, Fate/strange Fake, initially surfaced within the expansive Fate universe as an April Fool’s prank, but over time has grown into a cherished addition to the series. The anime rendition, crafted by A-1 Pictures, debuted in 2023 as a feature-length film, with a serialized TV version slated for December 2024 release. Interestingly enough, enthusiasts of the show can now stream the initial episode free on YouTube – albeit under a significant condition.

In a week-long free run starting from November 23rd, you can watch Episode 1 of Fate/strange Fake‘s English dub on Crunchyroll’s YouTube channel. So far, it has garnered 143,000 views and takes us into the story of Ayaka Sajo as she ventures into Snowfield after Gilgamesh and Enkidu’s intense battle. As with all Fate series, the narrative centers around the Holy Grail War. Without revealing too much about the episode’s plot, it skillfully establishes how Ayaka will navigate and survive through the ensuing war events.

strange Fake Changes the Fate Formula in a Way the Franchise Desperately Needed

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about “Fate/strange Fake,” a masterpiece penned by Ryogo Narita that initially surfaced on his official website as an April Fool’s prank in 2008 under the title “Fate/stay night.” Later, it was officially published through TYPE-MOON Ace 2 in 2009, graced with illustrations by Morii Shizuki.

The central plot of “Fate/strange Fake” revolves around a reenactment of the Third Holy Grail War from Fuyuki, which occurred seventy years ago and was mimicked by American mages to perform their own ritual. However, they failed to exactly replicate the original, resulting in the summoning of unusual servants due to a distortion in what constitutes a hero. The main character, Ayaka Sajo, who serves as Saber in this version – although she appears differently than the classic character in “Fate/strange Fake” – hails from Fuyuki and finds herself in the location of the replicated war following a mysterious event from her past. In this adaptation, Saber, or Lionheart, does not uphold the values of King Arthur but instead embodies the “Wandering King,” another hero distorted by the flawed ritual.
