Pokemon TCG x McDonald’s Info Reveals Cards Included in the Collab

As a seasoned gamer with memories of the 90’s Pokémon craze still vividly etched in my mind, hearing about the return of the Pokemon Trading Card Game to McDonald’s is like stepping into a time machine! The anticipation and excitement I felt as a kid, eagerly awaiting my next chance to snag a rare card at the local fast food joint, seems to have been recaptured in this news.

McDonald’s is set to reintroduce the Pokémon Trading Card Game in the coming weeks, although an exact start date hasn’t been confirmed yet. Starting next month, participating McDonald’s restaurants in France will kick off a promotion. As reported by PokeBeach, this promotion begins on December 4th and continues until January 21st in that region. The Happy Meals will function as they traditionally have, with each one including a four-card booster pack. In all, there will be fifteen unique cards available, predominantly featuring Dragon-type Pokémon. These cards are:

  • Charizard
  • Drampa
  • Dragapult
  • Dragonite
  • Eevee
  • Hatenna
  • Hydreigon
  • Jigglypuff
  • Koraidon
  • Miraidon
  • Pikachu
  • Quagsire
  • Umbreon
  • Rayquaza
  • Roaring Moon

Similar to previous Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) promotions, the cards found in these Happy Meals won’t be entirely fresh designs; instead, card enthusiasts can anticipate seeing cards that have been previously released in Pokemon TCG expansions. There will be alterations, of course, such as new numbering on each card, and a distinctive “confetti”-style holofoil design that has characterized the various Pokemon Happy Meals. While there are enough differences to make these cards unique, dedicated Pokemon TCG fans won’t feel like they’re missing out on anything crucial if they can’t collect every single card in the set.

Given that the current promotion by McDonald’s is themed around the Pet Simulator in North America, and since the upcoming promotion is rumored to feature Sonic the Hedgehog tied to the new movie release next month, PokeBeach speculates that the Pokemon TCG Happy Meals might not arrive in the U.S. until December. Although the fast food chain hasn’t confirmed their following promotion yet, it seems possible that we may have to wait until at least January for the Pokemon TCG Happy Meal promotion if the Sonic one is indeed released in December. This delay would occur after the Year of the Dragon ends, but most Pokemon enthusiasts likely won’t mind since themed promotions often vary between regions.

It’s not too unexpected that there will be a new Pokemon Happy Meal promotion, given the rumors circulating since August. When this Pokemon TCG promotion eventually takes place, I hope the cards are readily available for fans, young and old. The 2021 McDonald’s Pokemon TCG promotion was problematic due to resellers mass-purchasing the cards and selling them at inflated prices on platforms like eBay. Despite this issue, McDonald’s still opted to continue the promotion in later years, but with measures implemented to avoid a repeat of such problems. Fortunately, the recent McDonald’s Pokemon promotions have generally run smoothly!
