Unforgotten releases new look at season 6 – Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar return

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for gripping crime dramas that delve deep into the human psyche, I eagerly await the return of ITV’s Unforgotten for its sixth season. With a career spanning over three decades and countless hours spent watching detectives solve intricate mysteries, I can confidently say that this series consistently ranks among the best.

It’s nearly the time for us to dive back into a gripping cold case once more, as we find ourselves engrossed in another season of the popular ITV show, Unforgotten.

For the sixth time around, here’s a sneak peek at the show’s promotional picture. Sinead Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar are seen in the image, both appearing determined as they gear up for another thrilling season ahead.

Though the picture offers no clues, we’re eagerly anticipating the progress of this fresh collaboration as they delve deeper into a case that promises to unearth hidden truths for those directly involved.

As a devoted moviegoer, I’d rephrase it like this: I found myself joining the cast for the fifth season, stepping into the shoes of the new lead detective, DCI Jessica James, following the heart-stopping ending of season 4 that took Cassie Stuart (played by Nicola Walker) away from us all.

In this new storyline, Keenan returns to play DCI James once more, while Bhaskar takes on the beloved character of DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan. Together, they’ll delve into a murder mystery that promises to unite various key individuals.

As per the summary, the storyline initiates with the discovery of potential human remains at Whitney Marsh. Instantly, investigators Jess and Sunny are summoned to examine the site, interrupting Jess’s spouse’s previously arranged evening plans in the process.

Dr. Balcombe’s examination indicates that the found remains are quite fresh, leading to a troubling implication: the body had been divided into parts before being deposited at the location.

With this new understanding, Jess and Sunny step up their investigation, convinced that more body parts might not be too distant.

The synopsis also teases some of the new cast set to appear, saying: “As the investigation unfolds, viewers are introduced to a diverse new cast of characters: Melinda Ricci (MyAnna Buring), an outspoken television commentator based in Ireland; Martin ‘Marty’ Baines (Max Fairley), an autistic man living with his mother Dot in Deal, Kent; Asif Syed (Elham Elas), an Afghan training for his UK citizenship test; and Juliet Cooper (Victoria Hamilton), a history lecturer and faculty head at a London university.

Although these individuals appear to lead distinct lives, they share a complex history that binds them together. It falls upon Jess, Sunny, and their diligent crew to unearth these concealed connections and ultimately reveal the truth about the unsolved murder from long ago.

Additionally, Jessica and Sunny’s tight-knit group will be reunited for the fifth season. Jordan Long will reprise his role as Murray Boulting, DS, while Carolina Main continues as DS Fran Lingley. Pippa Nixon takes on the role of Karen Willets, DC, and Georgia Mackenzie returns as Dr. Leanne Balcombe, the pathologist.

In addition to the previously mentioned cast members for season 5, actors Jan Francis (known from Just Good Friends), Damien Molony (from Brassic), and Andrew Lancel (recognized from Bolan’s Shoes) will join the lineup. Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that Andrew Lancel is returning to play Jess’s husband Steve, while Kate Robbins (known for The Couple Next Door) takes on the role of her mother Kate.
