In 1967, the woman known for singing “Believe” claimed that Sonny had been unfaithful to her. This allegation came at a time when she had experienced a third miscarriage, and Sonny was in the process of writing what would later become the film titled Chastity.

As stated by Cher, during their time together as the musical duo Sonny & Cher, her then-husband described her as an assistant or secretary to transcribe instructions for the movie. Notably, this individual was a young, blonde woman.

In an article for People, she penned down that it was an old, familiar situation, followed by detailing the events when she heard noises like ‘crinkling and murmuring’ at her residence one evening.

She explained, “At that moment, I sensed something amiss and continued toward our bedroom, only to witness Sonny assisting his new assistant out the front door in vague silhouettes. It was so predictably tragic. It shattered my heart, but he deserves credit for his endeavor.

In 1975, six years after they had their child Chaz Bono, Cher officially ended her marriage with Sonny. Later in the same year, she tied the knot with guitarist Gregg Allman from The Allman Brothers Band. However, their union—which resulted in son Elijah Blue Allman—did not last and they divorced in 1979.

In her autobiography, Cher explained that, contrary to earlier reports, she didn’t officially marry Sonny Bono until 1968, despite a statement saying they wed in Tijuana, Mexico being released four years prior.

In her book, she penned that the event needed to transpire swiftly and discreetly, ensuring no one discovered our sham marriage was staged from the outset.
