Cyberpunk Live Action Project is Still in the Conceptual Stage

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent roaming the neon-lit streets of Night City, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of diving deeper into the Cyberpunk universe through various media formats! The live action adaptation and animated series in development by CD Projekt are intriguing steps toward expanding this captivating world beyond video games.

CD Projekt is currently developing multiple Cyberpunk projects, but none are quite ready for a public unveiling as they’re still in the early stages of production. One of these projects, a live-action adaptation within the Cyberpunk universe, was jointly announced with Anonymous Content last year. Recently, CD Projekt has shared an update on the progress of this particular project.

During a recent CD Projekt quarterly earnings Q&A session, co-CEO Michał Nowakowski shared that the live-action Cyberpunk project is advancing well, but it’s currently in the early stages of development, more focused on conceptualization than actual production. At this point, the project isn’t ready for shopping to streaming platforms or studios; however, Nowakowski anticipates that CD Projekt will initiate these conversations next year.

He explained that the development stage of our project has progressed since last year, but we’re not at the point yet where we can start pitching it to streaming platforms or studios. In simpler terms, there’s a similar amount of time between now and when we were first announced as there was between then and now, so within that time frame, I expect we will reach the stage where we can shop it around.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super excited that alongside our ongoing live-action venture revealed in September, the brilliant minds at CD Projekt are teaming up with Netflix to create an animated series based on none other than Cyberpunk!

The firm has revealed that the game “Cyberpunk 2077” has surpassed sales of 30 million copies globally, and as for “Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty,” it has reached 8 million units sold.
