As a seasoned Pokémon Go player with years of catching, battling, and exploring under my belt, I must say that the recent announcement about Max Mushrooms and Gigantamax Lapras Max Battle Day has brought a renewed sense of excitement. After months of frustration trying to catch those elusive Gigantamax forms, it seems that Niantic is finally listening to our cries for help!
Previously, during the past month, the game Pokemon Go introduced Gigantamax Raids, enabling players an opportunity to obtain Gigantamax versions of popular characters such as Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise. However, these battles in Gigantamax Raids were problematic from the outset, since they demanded real-life groups consisting of 10 to 40 individuals for successful execution. As a result, capturing Gigantamax Pokemon has been quite challenging for players, leading to widespread annoyance. Fortunately, it appears that Niantic is introducing a new feature for the upcoming Dual Destiny season: Max Mushrooms, an item that significantly boosts the potency of moves used in Max Battles.
In a Max Raid battle, you can give your Pokemon Max Mushrooms beforehand. Once given, this Pokemon’s attacks will deal double damage while an active timer persists. You can feed your Pokemon multiple Max Mushrooms to extend the timer duration, but the damage multiplier won’t increase beyond double after the initial one. In the Max Raid lobby, you’ll be able to see if other trainers have given their Pokemon Max Mushrooms, similar to how we currently can identify a trainer with a Mega Evolved Pokemon.
On Sunday, December 8th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., participants can witness enhancements to Max Raids featuring Gigantamax Lapras during Max Battle Day. Locally, Power Spots will be hosting Gigantamax Battles and offering more Max Particles for an increased chance to join Max Raids. By using the Nearby menu, players can collect Max Particles simply by exploring. During this event, players will only need to traverse a quarter of the usual distance to obtain these Max Particles, and they’ll receive double rewards for their exploration efforts.
Although this seems like a significant upgrade, there are several aspects yet to be clarified. For instance, it’s uncertain how readily available Max Mushrooms will be; Niantic has merely disclosed that players can obtain 1 Max Mushroom as a Timed Research reward from the $5 event ticket for Gigantamax Lapras Max Battle Day. Moreover, we’re unsure about the duration of the timer. The doubled damage attacks sound promising, but the actual advantage in Max Raids will depend on the duration of this effect and how often these opportunities arise.
The creators of Pokemon Go understand the challenges faced by players in Gigantamax Battles and are making adjustments to enhance overall difficulty. However, whether Max Mushrooms will provide sufficient improvements for players or if further modifications are required remains uncertain. Players should be ready with powerful Pokemon and enhanced Max Moves, even though the damage has been increased, as it may still prove challenging to conquer Gigantamax Pokemon without a large number of teammates!
