As a longtime aficionado of British television police dramas, I must confess that I was rather looking forward to another season of ITV’s The Tower, much like a Londoner anticipates a rare sunny day in their grey and drizzly city. Alas, it seems fate has other plans, as the show will not be returning for a fourth installment.
As a loyal viewer, I’m sad to share that our beloved ITV drama, The Tower, won’t be coming back for another season. A representative from the channel has confirmed this news. It’s truly disappointing, but let’s cherish the incredible moments we’ve shared with these characters over the past seasons.
In September, the detective series featuring Gemma Whelan, Tahirah Sharif, and Jimmy Akingbola was broadcast over seven days marking its third season. However, it seems that this is a temporary farewell to Detective Sergeant Sarah Collins as there are no current plans for more episodes.
Although many viewers cherished ‘The Tower’ during the drama, unfortunately, the viewership for the final season didn’t meet our expectations. Regretfully, we won’t be renewing it for another season,” a representative shared with The Sun.
In the third season, set approximately two years following the conclusion of the second, Sarah delved into the case of a teenage stabbing, an incident that Patrick Harbinson adapted from London’s novel Gallowstree Lane.
This situation placed her directly in contact with Lizzie, a woman juggling the roles of detective and mother. She often clashed with DI Kieran Shaw, leading an undercover police unit aimed at dismantling South London’s drug lord, Shakiel Oliver.
The termination is likely to disappoint those connected with the production, as several had expressed enthusiasm about continuing the series for another season.
He said: “I’m already writing the first episode of The Tower 4 just to show to ITV that we’re ready to go, because Kate [London] has already written a brilliant fourth novel, The Misper.”
Simultaneously, Whelan stated, “Indeed, let’s do it! I’m doing my best to convey our excitement to ITV and encourage everyone to watch, as this is going to be a spectacular event with impressive figures.
It seems that, like others have pointed out, this series has blossomed magnificently over time, and I personally believe that Series 3 surpasses all its previous excellence.
It’s simpler to express general ideas, but what truly captivates us are the narratives. We’re deeply engaged in discussing matters of significance, such as knife crime. Each time we produce a series, it feels like an urgent plea we’re conveying, making it not just entertaining but also serving a public purpose.
