As I reflect on Erin Lichy‘s courageous story, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration for her strength and resilience. At 18, she found herself in a situation many young women face – an unplanned pregnancy. Her decision to have an abortion was not one made lightly, and the trauma she experienced during that time is something I believe every woman who has gone through such a journey can relate to.

After several weeks since the Real Housewives of New York City star announced her pregnancy with child number 4, she delved into her past and shared her feelings about getting pregnant at 18 and the reasons behind her decision to undergo an abortion.
In a conversation with Glamour, the individual (aged 37) expressed that an intense emotion swept through them in their dormitory bathroom, leaving them emotionally overwhelmed. They went on to say they spent approximately an hour and a half weeping uncontrollably, saying things like “What am I going to do? Oh my God.” The experience was deeply frightening for them. This account, originally shared back in May, was published by Glamour on November 26th.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to rephrase it in my own words: “I, Erin – mom to Levi (9), Elijah (4), and Layla (7) with my partner, Abe Lichy – shared that I once stepped into a Planned Parenthood clinic, accompanied by my then-boyfriend. The situation marked the end of her relationship as the reality star said she never spoke to him again.
In my honest reflection, I acknowledged that a significant internal shift had occurred. A piece within me seemed to shatter, leaving me devoid of desire to engage or maintain any link with the source of this breakage.
She initially kept the abortion a secret until the following year when she confided in her mother Dorothy Somekh.
In her own words, she shared, ‘I’ve been there too,'” Erin recollected. “This resonated with me as a bonding moment between women. It was clear that despite being my mom, she wanted me to understand…Every woman has her own tale. I’d wager that many girls share a similar experience, even if it involves the use of Plan B.
In the passage of time, Erin finally summoned the strength to disclose to her father Eliahu Yitzhari before his passing in October.
She mentioned that she shared her story with her father, and his reaction surpassed anything she had envisioned, being both beautiful and heartwarming. Going into the conversation, she sought acceptance and support, which she fortunately received. However, what truly touched her was not just those things but also the friendship he offered. This demonstrates the remarkable level of support he provided and his open-mindedness.
Even though Erin acknowledges that she wouldn’t be the mother she is now if she had given birth as a teenager, she still experiences feelings of guilt following Levi’s arrival.
Reflecting on the moment I held my newborn for the very first time, I found myself pondering in awe, “Wow, I created this tiny miracle – how utterly incredible is that?
However, she felt compelled to speak out and share her experience due to her platform.
She stated, “It seemed to me that not discussing this and sharing my feelings, what sort of person would I portray myself as?
