Mishal Husain, Today programme host, leaving BBC after 26 years

As a long-time admirer and observer of Mishal Husain’s exceptional career journey, I am genuinely thrilled to see her embarking on this new chapter at Bloomberg. With over two decades spent at the BBC, she has undeniably left an indelible mark, gracing our airwaves with her incisive intellect, fair-mindedness, and unparalleled professionalism.

Mishal Husain, the current host of Today’s program, has announced her departure from the BBC by the end of the year, marking a conclusion to her 26-year tenure with the broadcasting company.

Husain is set to transition to Bloomberg, assuming the position of Editor-at-Large for the Bloomberg Weekend Edition. This new role will encompass hosting a fresh, premier international interview program across multiple platforms.

Sharing some exciting news, she mentioned that her stint at the BBC was filled with unforgettable experiences, such as visiting locations I wouldn’t have had a chance to see otherwise, observing historical events unfold, and participating in live, nationwide discussions on Radio 4.

She expressed: “I’ll forever remain thankful for the chances the BBC provided me, and I send my warmest wishes to the organization and every individual associated with it.

In a different announcement about her position at Bloomberg, she expressed her joy by saying she was excited to host the upcoming interview series.

“Our world continues to grow in complexity, yet the yearning for meaningful dialogue transcends every boundary,” she stated. “I eagerly anticipate collaborating with a fresh group at Bloomberg – a company where I began my career in journalism.

In the meantime, David Merritt, who heads editorial media at Bloomberg, commended Husain as one of the United Kingdom’s top news presenters and reporters. He admired her skillful approach to conducting interviews that is both insightful and impartial.

He mentioned, “Mishal commenced her television journey at Bloomberg. We’re thrilled to have her return with us for a fresh, worldwide chapter.

Since 1998, I’ve been proud to be part of the BBC family, taking on numerous roles over the past 25 years. Among these roles, I’ve had the privilege of presenting on BBC World News.

11 years ago, I joined the ranks of the Today programme, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of hosting The Today Debate and more recently, the BBC UK general election debates.

According to Today’s editor, Owenna Griffiths, Mishal stands out not just as a talented journalist and competent host, but also as a very kind-hearted and considerate team member.

I’ve had the honor of collaborating with her, and together with the Today team, we will deeply miss her. I wish her nothing but success in her upcoming endeavor.
