As a lifelong Dragon Quest fanatic, hailing from the mystical lands of Erdrick himself, I can hardly contain my excitement as Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake continues its dominance over Japan’s gaming charts! The sheer nostalgia this game brings back is simply unparalleled. I remember playing the original version on my Game Boy back in ’88, and now, here we are with an updated masterpiece that’s breaking records left and right.
Last week saw the highly anticipated debut of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which quickly claimed the top spot on Japan’s weekly charts for physical software sales, moving over 820,000 units combined. In its second week, sales have understandably taken a dip, but it still reigns supreme in the rankings. According to fresh data from Famitsu, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake continues to hold two positions within the top 10, with the Nintendo Switch version leading the pack and the PS5 edition placing third. Together, they sold more than 91,000 units in Japan during its second week.
Additionally, other recent launches are still ranking high, including “Super Mario Party Jamboree,” which sold more than 34,000 copies and ranked second, followed by “Mario and Luigi: Brothership” that sold over 9,000 units and placed fourth. The new release on the Nintendo Switch, “Stray,” also managed to chart at No. 7 with sales of over 7,000 units.
Regarding hardware sales, Nintendo Switch continues to outperform its competitors by selling approximately 69,000 units, slightly more than the number from the previous week. Simultaneously, PlayStation 5 also experienced a slight increase in sales, with around 25,000 units sold during the same period.
