As a longtime fan of the Teen Titans, I must say that the 400th episode was nothing short of brilliant! The stop motion animation added a delightful twist to the series, bringing back nostalgic vibes reminiscent of classic holiday specials like Rudolph and Santa Claus.
In simple terms, The cartoon series Teen Titans Go! has surpassed many significant achievements, but its latest feat is the most remarkable yet. Today, it broadcasted its 400th episode, making it not only a milestone for the show itself but also the longest-running animated series ever produced by DC Comics. To mark this special occasion, DC collaborated with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios to produce an extraordinary 400th episode special featuring the Teen Titans Go! characters in stop motion animation. We were fortunate enough to interview Tara Strong about her experience watching Raven in a stop motion setting, the impact of reaching such a monumental milestone, the prospect of a stop motion Titans holiday special, and of course, the topic of Robin’s small hands.
Few shows reach the milestone of 50 episodes, let alone 400, but “Teen Titans Go!” has managed it, leaving Strong in a state of disbelief. He explained, “It’s almost unbelievable that this is now the longest-running DC animated series. When I think about my childhood with Super Friends and Justice League, and now Teen Titans Go! surpassing them, it’s really quite extraordinary.” He continued, “But what makes it even more amazing is the fun we’ve had making these 400 episodes. I love knowing that we’ve been able to bring joy to people and their families for all this time.
One aspect that truly adds flavor to the show is the camaraderie between the cast members, who over two decades have formed something akin to a family. As Strong put it, “There’s just so much that goes into creating this magical stew that makes it so appetizing. We’ve been working together for 20 years now, and we started with the original Teen Titans. It’s the same group of people who brought those characters to life, preserving the core essence of those characters in a way that appeals to both parents and children.
One aspect that truly sets this series apart is its knack for blending grand action with a delightful dose of absurdity, and I must admit, this combination is what I adore most about the show. Interestingly enough, it seems that this same spirit pervades the production process. As Strong put it, “It’s incredibly silly! I believe the humor is kid-friendly, amusing, irreverent, stupid, and just plain goofy. If you try to dislike it, you might still find yourself chuckling.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel like we’re more than just spectators; we’re a family. We’ve shared so many life milestones together – marriages, divorces, parenthood, loss, and relocations, to name a few. It’s been quite the journey!
The Big 400
400 episodes is a significant achievement, and the 400th episode is just as grand. An impressive musical performance? Absolutely. An unexpected villain? Indeed, it’s Superman, so all boxes are ticked. Transitioning to Stop Motion animation? Maximum check, and the team poured all their effort into making this special a fitting tribute for the milestone.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the intricate details that go into crafting an animated series. It seems everyone involved has been operating at peak performance, demonstrating diligence and dedication in every aspect. It’s not as simple as just creating an episode on a whim; each one is thoughtfully designed to be engaging and entertaining. Even when facing the challenge of producing the 400th episode, they manage to make it unique and special. When you consider the longevity of a series like this, it’s crucial to have significant milestones, and this one certainly delivers a grand storyline.
“You know, Superman basically tries to take us out, we’re fighting for our lives, and then we step into this stop motion world done by Stoopid Buddy, who’s just, everything they do, so brilliant,” Strong said. “If you ever get a chance to tour their studios, I highly recommend it because the meticulous nature of how they do their work and how much care they put into their work. This special is really going to just delight people. It’s just so funny. And, you know, every episode is different and surprising and silly and it keeps it fresh. I think people keep coming back because they never know what they’re going to get and it’s always going to make them laugh.”
Teen Titans Go! Stop Motion Holiday Special…When?
In a fun twist on traditional Christmas favorites like Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, it’s quite amusing to find the Titans getting the same stop motion treatment during their 400th episode. Watching Raven and her team in this format is pure comedy gold, which makes me wonder if she would be excited about a Titans holiday special modeled after those classics. Luckily, she’s on board with the idea!
Strong expressed enthusiasm for the second question first, stating a resounding affirmative with phrases such as “Absolutely!” or “I’d definitely agree with that!” He suggested an idea about creating a musical-style production similar to the Guardians, but this time in stop motion animation. He added that it would be even more entertaining if there were references to old favorites like Rudolph and other classic Christmas specials for a nostalgic touch.
Regarding the first time Strong saw Raven in stop motion, he expressed, “In just one word, I’d say ‘hilarious,’ as it was absolutely hilarious! The artists at Stoopid Buddy Studios truly outdid themselves by capturing the essence of these characters and their movements. It’s a painstaking process, but they were so meticulous in bringing these characters to life, staying true to who they are and how they interact with each other. So yes, it was hilarious, but it was also incredibly brilliant! Creating an animated, stop motion, or any show is a collaborative effort, and this team really pulled together and put in the hard work. I believe their dedication truly shines through.
To round off some of the standout moments from the 400th episode, there’s a chuckle-worthy one involving Robin’s remarkably petite hands. In a humorous twist, they become even more amusing when presented in stop motion animation. Naturiously, I found myself wondering, what’s the reason behind Robin having such miniature hands?
She explained, “He’s naturally that way,” she said, “so try not to criticize him. It’s unfortunate, really.” I commented on how charming the stop-motion baby hands look, and she concurred, saying, “They’re so amusing in stop motion! And it’s even funnier when we’re all together for interviews like this one at New York Comic-Con. Scotty Menville joked, ‘I don’t have baby hands!’ We replied, ‘Yes, yes, you do.’
You can watch Teen Titans Go! Four Hundred on Cartoon Network, and it will re-air on Sunday at 2:45 PM. You will also be able to watch the 400th episode on the Cartoon Network App and on Max at a later date.
