Sonic the Hedgehog Insider Claims Two New Games are “In Full Production”

As a die-hard Sonic fan who has been running through loops since the 90s, hearing about not one but two new Sonic games coming our way in the next couple of years is music to my ears! The rumors about the remake of Sonic Heroes and a follow-up to Sonic Frontiers have me practically bouncing off the walls with excitement.

As a die-hard Sonic fan, I can’t help but feel like my dreams are coming true! Last year, we got the incredible experience of Sonic x Shadow Generations. Now, it looks like Sega is cooking up even more excitement for us gamers. Just last month, leaker Ryan from the Bronx dropped a hint about a Sonic game codenamed “Guinness.” While the details are still under wraps, many in our gaming community believe it could be none other than Sonic Heroes getting a fresh update.

In much the same way you’d approach gossip or leaks, consider this with a healthy dose of skepticism. However, it’s important to note that Ryan from the Bronx (formerly known as Midori) has an impressive history with Sega. Given this, it’s not entirely implausible to expect a remake and sequel for “Sonic Frontiers”. In fact, since the launch of “Sonic Frontiers”, Sega has consistently mentioned their intention to develop further on the “open zone” concept in upcoming games. The open zones in “Sonic Frontiers” were generally well-received, with many fans and critics finding that the formula was refined in “Sonic x Shadow Generations”. Under these circumstances, it seems reasonable that Sega would continue to enhance this aspect.

Over the years, Sega’s strategy for Sonic has heavily relied on remakes and remasters. Last year saw the revamp of Sonic Colors, and this year, Sonic Generations received the same treatment. As for what’s next, it remains to be seen, but rumors point towards Sonic Heroes. This game could very well be in the works due to several reasons. Firstly, Shadow, a character currently receiving a lot of attention thanks to his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, is a key figure in Sonic Heroes. Secondly, unlike other games that are easily accessible, Sonic Heroes has yet to receive a re-release or remaster, making it only playable on GameCube, PS2, or Xbox. This factor makes it a more attractive choice for fans who might not have these older consoles.

It’s possible that Sega could give us more details about their 2025 plans early next year. The game Sonic x Shadow Generations was announced in January 2024 and released in October, so if they follow a similar timeline, we might hear an announcement as soon as the upcoming month. However, this isn’t always the case; for instance, we didn’t find out about Sonic Superstars until June 2023, which was around four months before its release date. Fortunately, Sonic enthusiasts have other exciting things to look forward to in the meantime, such as a new movie and additional DLC for Sonic x Shadow Generations, both of which are expected towards the end of December.
