As a long-time connoisseur of shojo anime, I can confidently say that the upcoming second season of “My Happy Marriage” is a cause for great excitement and anticipation. Having grown up on a diet of shojo series, I’ve seen the ebb and flow of popularity, the rare glimmers of hope in the face of skepticism, and the unwavering passion of fans who cherish these stories.
For quite a while, it was scarcely ever the case that a shojo series would secure a second season, even if it gained immense popularity – such an occurrence was almost unheard of. But recently, there’s been a surge and rejuvenation in this demographic, which has resulted in an overwhelming number of fresh anime adaptations and follow-ups that have left shojo enthusiasts buzzing with anticipation for what’s to come. One such series, the animated version of Akumi Agitogi’s “My Happy Marriage,” is gearing up for the release of its second season during Winter 2025, and there are some fantastic new developments regarding its cast.
Based on its source in contemporary light novels, My Happy Marriage is a series with minimal fantasy elements, set in Japan during the Taisho era. In this world, entities like spirits and magic do exist, but the protagonist, Miyo Saimori, was born without any such abilities. Instead, she finds herself serving under her cruel stepmother and stepsiblings. When it’s time for her to marry, her family arranges a union with Kiyoka Kudou, a ruthless military commander known for driving his wives away. With few other options, Miyo agrees, only to discover that the tales of Kiyoka’s harshness were greatly exaggerated.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the OVA of “My Happy Marriage” will be gracing Netflix screens soon! And here’s the cherry on top – Season 2 is just around the corner, set to air on TOKYO MX and other networks, including Netflix, starting from January 6, 2024.
My Happy Marriage Proves Shojo Is Still Relevant & Should Be Celebrated
The animated series “My Happy Marriage” not only spins an enchanting love tale, but also underscores the significance of shojo genre in today’s anime culture, silencing those who doubt its relevance. Although it may seem more appealing to amplify a series brimming with intense action and exceptional animation, the tender portrayal of authentic human feelings in shojo productions deserves recognition.
Shojo writers have a knack for exploring the ‘why’ behind people’s actions, particularly in the context of love. For instance, they might delve into typical high school romances or more intricate adult relationships like those depicted in NANA. The series, My Happy Marriage, is no exception, as it tackles an arranged marriage between a man struggling with societal gossip and a woman finding her identity. This captivating series does not disappoint, and the fact that it’s receiving a second season indicates that viewers are appreciating its unique charm as well.
