Superman & Lois Series Finale Had a Surprising Grimm Crossover

As a seasoned gamer of both the small screen and the superhero universe, I must say the finale of Superman & Lois left me feeling like I just won the ultimate crossover event. The cameo of Elizabeth Tulloch’s real-life husband, David Giuntoli, was a delightful surprise that brought back fond memories of his days as Nick Burkhardt on Grimm. It’s always refreshing to see the crew members get their moment in the spotlight, especially when they’re as cool and down-to-earth as Giuntoli.

In the finale of the TV series “Superman & Lois,” there was not only the usual drama but also a mini reunion from another popular CW show – “Grimm.” Elizabeth Tulloch, who plays in both series, hinted on social media without revealing anything. It turned out that Tulloch’s real-life husband and co-star of “Grimm,” David Giuntoli, appeared in a significant role in the last episode of “Superman & Lois.

Heads up! The following may contain spoilers for the latest episode of Superman & Lois. As a devoted fan, I can’t help but look ahead with excitement as we catch a glimpse into Clark (Tyler Hoechlin), Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) and their sons, Jonathan (Michael Bishop) and Jordan (Alex Garfin)’s future. The final scenes took a leap 32 years into the future, where we find a grown-up Jonathan Kent, played by none other than Giuntoli – a delightful nod to fans of Grimm who followed Giuntoli and Tulloch’s chemistry from 2011 to 2017.

On the occasion of Tulloch’s appearance in ‘Superman & Lois’, her husband wasn’t making his debut – he directed Episode 3 of Season 4, titled “Always My Hero”. It could be argued that this was a more substantial contribution than just appearing briefly in the season finale. Co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher discussed the final episode with ‘TV Line’, stating it was straightforward to include Giuntoli on screen as well.

Helbing shared, “We adore David. Over the past four years, we’ve grown fond of him, as he directed the recent season. He’s simply terrific! Interestingly, Bitsie and David are my neighbors within our neighborhood. We don’t live next door, but we cross paths often. When we asked him, he was more than happy to oblige. Such interactions are exactly what we enjoy incorporating on our show – featuring crew members in the episodes.

Fletcher mentioned that they aimed to give the last season a homemade feel. He further explained that this show was unique among all he’s worked on, with viewers particularly loving it. They wanted to reward their audience and having David back was an added bonus due to his charming personality, which is why they invited him to return.

On Monday, the ending of Superman & Lois turned out to be a full and unexpected wrap-up. The forward glimpses not only revealed joyful outcomes but also bitter ones. We witnessed Lois’s death in the future due to her cancer returning, and later, Clark’s passing as well, decades down the line. This daring decision for a character typically portrayed as virtually indestructible was fitting in this instance, adding a sense of finality to the narrative and the entire Arrowverse saga.

right now, you can watch the final episode of “Superman & Lois” on The CW app, while past seasons can be found on Max. Meanwhile, the series “Grimm” is accessible for streaming on The CW app, Peacock, and Amazon Prime Video.
