BBC confirms Christmas TV schedule including The Split special and Call the Midwife

As a longtime enthusiast of British television and someone who has spent countless winter evenings curled up with a cup of tea and the BBC schedule, I am absolutely thrilled by the wealth of entertainment that the network has in store for us this festive season! The diverse range of programming caters to every taste, from the action-packed SAS Rogue Heroes to the spooky short film Woman of Stone penned by none other than Mark Gatiss.

This holiday season, Britain’s televisions are set for an exhilarating time as the BBC has unveiled its full Christmas 2024 lineup! A multitude of shows will be broadcast from December 21st (Saturday) through January 3rd (Friday).

On BBC One, you’ll find a delightful selection of holiday classics to anticipate this season, such as the special episodes of Call the Midwife and The Split during Christmas time.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, the midwives from Poplar will reappear on your screens at 8pm and 7:30pm respectively. Meanwhile, Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan are set to return in The Split for a special two-part episode airing at 9pm on Sunday, 29th December.

On BBC, it’s not a true Christmas Day without a new episode of Doctor Who featuring Ncuti Gatwa reprising his role in “Joy to the World,” joined by Nicola Coughlan as well.

On Christmas Day at 5:10 PM, he and the Bridgerton actor may encounter a tricky situation involving temporal anomalies.

That isn’t the only special airing on Christmas Day, with viewers headed back to Barry for the final ever episode of Gavin & Stacey!

Tune in at 9pm as we explore this year’s special: “Bryn prepares the Picasso for a journey to Essex, while Stacey and Gavin seek fresh ideas to reinvigorate their 17-year old marriage, and Gwen behaves rather oddly.” – Await your screens!

As a movie connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share that it’s not just Gavin & Stacey gracing our screens once more; the Brockman family is back for a delightful Outnumbered Christmas special! Mark your calendars, fellow viewers, as you won’t want to miss this heartwarming episode airing on Boxing Day at 9:40pm.

I can hardly contain my excitement as a movie lover! It’s been announced that Wallace & Gromit, two of my all-time favorites, are making a comeback in “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.” In this new adventure, the notorious Feathers McGraw is seeking revenge, and I can hardly wait to see it unfold. The special will be premiering at 6:10pm on Christmas Day – perfect timing for a festive treat!

Isn’t it just perfect for a bit of mystery-solving to round off the holiday season, isn’t it? Detective Inspector Don Gilet from “Death in Paradise” will make his first appearance on December 22nd at 8:30pm.

Additionally, don’t forget that “Beyond Paradise” is back again for a special holiday episode airing on the 27th of December, starting at 9 PM.

On Christmas Eve at 8:15 PM, I’d highly recommend tuning into The Repair Shop if you’re in search of a heartfelt viewing experience that might bring a tear to your eye.

Don’t worry soap opera enthusiasts! This Christmas will be exciting for EastEnders devotees as the secret affair between Cindy and Junior is revealed in a thrilling two-episode special airing on Christmas Day at 7:30pm and 10:35pm.

If you’re seeking some fun treats this holiday season, fans should mark their calendars! The Strictly Come Dancing special will be aired at 3:55 in the afternoon on Christmas Day, and Blankety Blank is scheduled for 9 o’clock on Boxing Day.

As we move towards the New Year, several programs not related to Christmas will be appearing or returning on the BBC schedule, offering a variety of entertainment options.

In a special star-studded version of Gladiators, Rob Beckett, Joel Dommett, Ellie Taylor, and Louise Minchin will face off against each other, taking part in traditional Gladiator competitions such as the legendary Eliminator.

The hour-long special will air at 6pm on New Year’s Day.

Once again, just as tradition dictates, The King’s Speech is scheduled to broadcast on Christmas Day, marking the third time King Charles delivers his festive message at 3:00 PM on BBC One on that very day.

If you’re looking for some fun movies to watch during the holiday season, BBC has a great selection for you! Chicken Run, Moana, Minions: The Rise of Gru, and Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical are just a few of the films that will be shown on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Enjoy your holidays with these fantastic movies!
