Stalker 2: In the Name of Science Walkthrough

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent traversing the treacherous landscapes of the Zone, I can confidently say that the In the Name of Science quest in Stalker 2 is a rollercoaster ride of excitement and challenge. The hunt for mutant collars, the encounters with formidable foes like the Controller and Pseudo Giant, and the exploration of abandoned buildings filled with zombies and other mutants – it’s all part of the thrill that Stalker 2 offers.

If you’re curious about the purpose of the collars you’ve been collecting from mutants in Stalker 2, you can learn what they do during the “In the Name of Science” quest. To initiate this mission, you need to give Shcherba the scientific documents that you found during the “In Search of Past Glory” quest. In this mission, your task is to collect five additional collars from mutants within the Zone. Once you’ve gathered them all, you’ll need to enter another abandoned structure in order for the device to function properly.

How To Complete In the Name of Science in Stalker 2

To finish the “In the Name of Science” mission in Stalker 2, you need to track down and capture five mutants by grabbing their collars. Four of these mutants demand that you first defeat a beast, while one is an optional target as a band of mercenaries will already have claimed its collar. Here are the details about your targets and their locations:

  • Boathouse – Wild Island: Psy Bayun
  • Hydrodynamics Lab – Zaton: Controller
  • The Brood – Garbage: Snork
  • Containers – Red Forest: Pseudo Giant
  • Brain Scorcher – Malachite: NPCs

Among all the monstrous foes, you’ll encounter the Controller and the Pseudo Giant, who are undoubtedly the toughest to defeat. Despite the Pseudo Giant being a solitary mutant, it is widely considered the hardest to eliminate in the Zone because of its colossal health points. The Controller, a recurring adversary, will be concealed within a structure teeming with zombies.

The easiest collar to get is located at the Brain Scorcher Anomaly. Unlike the rest, a group of mercenaries has claimed the device from the mutant. The man won’t give it to you for free. You can either pay him or kill him to get the item. I recommend paying him unless you want to enter a gunfight.

How To Find the Device That Jams the Collar Signals

After gathering all the collars, head back to the Rooftop Warehouse to deliver them to Shcherba. However, there seems to be some interference blocking the device’s function. To resolve this problem during the “In Quest of Science” mission, you’ll need to investigate an old, abandoned structure.

On top of the Hill lies a Storage facility teeming with zombies and mutants, so make sure you’re well-equipped before venturing there. Once you enter, here are some steps to help you finish the “In the Name of Science” mission:

  1. Kill the zombies and enter the room to your right to flip the switch.
  2. Pass through the iron door to your right and follow the passage.
  3. In the room with acid anomalies, you can find the second switch.
  4. Pass through the bulkhead door and go down the stairs.
  5. Before jumping down the ledge, prepare to fight some mutant rats.
  6. In the next chamber, you must defeat two Poltergeists.
  7. Use the ladder and pass through the open door to find the jammer.

Should You Disable or Recalibrate the Jammer?

After examining the recordings, you’ll grasp the motive for the interference. During the “In the Name of Science” mission, you have two possible courses of action to choose from:

  • Disable the jammer to activate the collars: Shcherba rewards you with some Coupons, but you have to fight three Bloodsuckers. However, you can get a Gauss Gun after dealing with Shcherba.
  • Recalibrate the jammer to shut down the collars: Dvupalov rewards you with Coupons, but you don’t get a Gauss Gun.

If you’re ready to face off against the Bloodsuckers, it might be wise to deactivate the jammer, which will reward you with a formidable weapon known as the Gauss Gun. However, when encountering Shcherba later on, I advise showing mercy to him. This act of kindness will ensure that the scientist community remains friendly towards you.
