Does Marvel Rivals have crossplay or cross-progression?

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming Marvel Rivals has certainly piqued my interest. The prospect of teaming up as Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, each on their preferred gaming platform, is nothing short of fascinating. It’s like Iron Man and Hulk joining forces to take down Doctor Doom, not just in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also in the virtual realm!

Could it be possible for Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, given that they prefer different gaming platforms (Tony with PlayStation and Bruce with PC), to join forces to challenge Doctor Doom on Xbox in their battle against him?

Players of Marvel Rivals find themselves in a predicament. Choosing among the 33 playable characters is already challenging, but they also need to consider issues related to crossplay and cross-progression, which has become a significant point of discussion as the third-person hero shooter approaches its release date.

In a market where popular titles like Fortnite, Apex Legends, Overwatch, and others are already dominant, offering extra features such as crossplay could significantly impact a game’s longevity, potentially determining whether it thrives or fades away prematurely.

Even then, that doesn’t always make a difference – take Sony’s Concord, for instance.

It’s great news that Marvel Rivals appears to offer more appealing features as it prepares for launch. However, is crossplay or cross-progression among those features? Let’s clarify any potential confusion by looking into the developer NetEase’s comments on the matter.

Is Marvel Rivals crossplay?

Indeed, Marvel Rivals supports cross-platform play among PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. However, it’s important to note that the crossplay compatibility can vary based on the specific game mode you are engaged in.

In summary, crossplay is permitted in relaxed game settings like Quick Match and Custom Games. However, when it comes to Competitive Mode, you’ll be confined to playing only with users from your specific platform – for instance, PC players will only encounter other PC players.

In an interview with Wccftech back in June 2024, Marvel Rivals executive producer Danny Koo confirmed that crossplay will indeed be a feature. He said, “Absolutely, and we plan to include crossplay even during our beta phase.

This development was realized as crossplay became available during the beta phase, and it’s confirmed that it will be part of the final version as well.

Does Marvel Rivals have cross-progression?

On its initial release, Marvel Rivals won’t support cross-progression. Yet, it’s anticipated that this feature will be added later down the line, as the developers are mindful of fan requests for it.

In the same Wccftech interview, Koo discussed cross-progression: “Given its complexity, it’s a challenging task, but we’re actively exploring solutions. Since our fans have brought this up frequently, we are indeed investigating it.

The action-packed game, Marvel Rivals, will be released for public play on the 6th of December 2024, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PCs running Microsoft Windows.
