As a seasoned movie lover with decades of immersing myself in the world of reel and real-life dramas, I can wholeheartedly appreciate Maureen Lipman’s decision to step back from Coronation Street for a well-deserved break. Having witnessed her captivating portrayal of Evelyn Plummer and admired her versatility as an actress, it is heartening to know that she intends to continue her association with the show in a more flexible capacity.
As a film enthusiast, I’m sharing this tidbit – Maureen Lipman, known for her role on Coronation Street, has decided to take a break, much like what one might do during a gap year. She’s chosen to step away from the show to savor life a bit more.
Lipman takes on the role of Evelyn Plummer within this soap opera, returning to the cast in 2018 following a short-lived appearance as a different character in 2002.
Lipman has become a familiar figure in Weatherfield ever since she first arrived, however, she’s planning to reduce her presence there in the future.
To The Sun, Maureen expressed, “I’ll be taking a brief hiatus, followed by my return. I’m not planning on departing permanently, but I aim to enjoy some time for myself, living a little more.
Regarding her latest life event, which is her engagement to David Turner, Lipman expressed: “We’re considering taking a year off together.
Regarding her departure from Corrie, it’s been disclosed that her character, Evelyn, will be leaving due to a storyline where she decides to pursue higher education in law at university. This new journey is inspired by Roy Cropper, portrayed by David Neilson.
Although specifics haven’t been disclosed by ITV yet, fans should anticipate a heartfelt goodbye for the beloved character.
From a film enthusiast’s perspective, I can share that when it comes to what Lipman might have planned next, she hinted at the possibility of Evelyn maintaining a presence on Coronation Street, popping in and out rather than bidding a permanent farewell. So, while it’s not a definite goodbye, it seems there could be more adventures ahead for this character!
Speaking about potential new opportunities, Lipman expressed to The Sun: “I’m eager to discover what might lie ahead when I step out. Perhaps there are roles that Lesley Manville, Brenda Blethyn, and Harriet Walter haven’t tackled yet, which I could take on.
Originally declared in July, Lipman is set to momentarily step away from Coronation Street for the annual pantomime at Richmond Theatre. Interestingly, she had a similar hiatus last year to star in her own West End play titled Rose.
Previously this year, Lipman shared her thoughts on the show’s grittier plotlines during an interview on the Beyond the Title podcast, stating: “In Corrie these days, characters are being killed off in lingerie manufacturing plants.
Our storyline involves domestic abuse. Issues like this, which fall under modern societal concerns, are often featured in popular daytime soaps.
