Where was The Pembrokeshire Murders filmed? All the locations

As someone who grew up in the very heart of Pembrokeshire and had the misfortune of living through the terror of Cooper’s reign, I can say that The Pembrokeshire Murders not only brought back haunting memories but also captured the essence of our beautiful yet ominous county.

Three years have passed since the chilling tale of Welsh serial killer John Cooper, portrayed in “The Pembrokeshire Murders,” captivated viewers on ITV.

The Netflix series features Luke Evans portraying Steve Wilkins, a historical character who revisits two cold-case murders from the 1980s and pursues proof to prosecute ‘The Bullseye Killer’ Cooper, whose nickname derives from his presence on the popular ITV darts program.

When portraying the events, it was crucial for the producers to pay attention to several details, especially ensuring that the challenging content was handled delicately and respectfully. A significant factor in this endeavor was selecting the suitable places where the series should be filmed.

The drama was shot on-site in Pembrokeshire, and as per executive producer Simon Heath’s statement, this was crucial for maintaining the program’s authenticity.

He commented: “Pembrokeshire has a unique charm; it’s not only an attractive destination for vacation, but also, having come from Birmingham in the ’80s, I know it can be harsh during winter. It carries an industrial working-class vibe, which is where Cooper originated, and his victims did too. I believe Marc [Evans, director] excellently portrays these two facets of Pembrokeshire.

As a cinephile, I’ve got to share that while many of the breathtaking exterior shots were captured in Pembrokeshire, with its enchanting coastline, certain interior scenes were actually filmed beyond those picturesque landscapes, right here in Cardiff. This was due to a handful of practical challenges we encountered.

As a movie enthusiast, I found myself in a unique situation where we had to work with Luke before an opportunity passed us by. Given this, we chose to commence filming at the beginning of 2020, unaware that it would turn out to be a year with unfavorable weather conditions and circumstances working against us – all explained by Heath.

For three weeks, we filmed the essential outdoor scenes in Pembrokeshire, aware that afterwards we’d return to Cardiff and its vicinity to shoot many of the interior scenes for our production.

However, even though the interior scenes weren’t filmed on-site, Heath still feels that the atmosphere of Pembrokeshire comes across vividly.

He mentioned that the filming locations varied, with some interior shots made around Cardiff due to weather and filming challenges, but despite these changes, the piece maintained a consistent feel of being in that world throughout. What stood out most to him was the breathtaking Pembrokeshire countryside.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I couldn’t contain my excitement when presented with the opportunity to film in my very own Wales – a remarkable first for me as an artist. I firmly believe that the striking beauty of the landscapes serves as a stark contrast to the chilling horrors portrayed in our production, which is indeed the heart and soul of this captivating programme.

While working on the project, Evans along with the other actors and production team were seen at various spots across Pembrokeshire, such as the seaside towns Goodwick and Fishguard, and the village Freshwater East.
