As a seasoned moviegoer with a penchant for recognizing talent when I see it, I must say that Colman Domingo is an actor who has been gracing our screens with his captivating performances for quite some time now. From his gripping portrayal of Victor Strand in Fear the Walking Dead to his mesmerizing voicework as Norman Osborn in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Domingo’s versatility and charisma are truly unparalleled.
Actor and playwright Colman Domingo has garnered significant recognition from fans due to his performance in “Fear the Walking Dead,” making him a popular choice among actors who might join big franchise ensembles. Marvel enthusiasts have partially seen their dreams realized as Domingo was cast as the voice of Norman Osborn in the upcoming animated series “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.” Interestingly, it appears that Domingo has been discussing potential roles within the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent interview, Colman Domingo confirms that he is engaged in talks with Marvel Studios, but emphasizes that these discussions are currently more of an open invitation he’s eager to explore!
In a conversation with Screen Geek, Domingo shared that he’s had a chat with Marvel, though the discussion didn’t revolve around any specific project. Marvel essentially asked him, “What would you like to work on?” To which Domingo responded, “I’m not sure. What do you have for me?” This indicates an ongoing dialogue between them. Who wouldn’t be excited about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe? However, he emphasized that he doesn’t want a role just for the sake of it. Instead, he seeks a part where he can contribute genuinely and something that feels tailored to him. As of now, he’s still waiting to discover what that role might be.
Over the past year, I’ve noticed a buzz surrounding Colman Domingo and the MCU. Towards the end of last year, whispers grew louder suggesting that Domingo might step into the role of Kang the Conqueror, following Jonathan Majors’ involvement in a significant personal scandal and legal proceedings. Yet, Domingo himself has remained modest on the matter, expressing that he knows no more than we do (just rumors). He did mention, however, that discussions with Marvel Studios have taken place, but as of now, there seems to be no definite role for him to discuss.
Domingo shared with Vanity Fair earlier this year that it’s peculiar how folks are discussing this matter online. He admitted he was puzzled at first, questioning the source of such gossip. However, he didn’t give it much thought until the next day when he found out the rumor had spread far and wide.
For quite some time, discussions about certain aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have taken place within my team and me. However, whether these talks actually happened or not is something I can’t confirm. I tend to believe that my team only shares information that’s genuine with me. As a result, I’m uncertain if this is one of those real conversations or not. I’d be open to discussing it further, though.
That quote was from back in March of 2024, so it seems there was definitely some forward motion across the year, where Colman Domingo went from hearing rumors about his MCU involvement to having actual meetings with the studio. The question remains: what was discussed?
Will Colman Domingo Be The MCU’s New Kang?
The question of Kang’s presence in the MCU Multiverse Saga is a heavy one looming over the franchise. Jonathan Majors was dropped by Disney immediately after receiving a guilty verdict in his initial trial for assault and harassment – but his accuser later dropped an assault and defamation lawsuit against the actor, which has re-galvanized his career (to some extent). Disney has fired and re-hired prominent Marvel figures before (see: James Gunn), so there’s been speculation about whether or not Majors would be allowed to return and give his arc as Kang proper closure, avoiding the need for recasting.
It’s been confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, but we’re yet to find out how he takes over the control of the Marvel Multiverse from the Council of Kangs. There’s a chance for Colman Domingo to join the cast and wrap up the Kang saga, and many fans would be thrilled to see him alongside RDJ in Avengers 5.
There are numerous Marvel characters that actor Colman Domingo might suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). For instance, we may one day see a live-action portrayal of Miles Morales’ Uncle Aaron (The Prowler) in future stories. The upcoming ‘Blade’ film could benefit from having a captivating actor like Domingo as the MCU’s Whistler. In the X-Men section of the MCU, roles such as Bishop or even a fresh take on Magneto might be within his grasp. If Denzel Washington is in discussions for ‘Black Panther 3’, incorporating Colman Domingo into the mix would undoubtedly add excitement. If Domingo impresses Marvel fans with his voice acting as Norman Osborn, there could also be room for a live-action version of that character in the MCU as well.
At this moment, the only information available regarding Colman Domingo’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes from rumors and speculation. Additionally, his portrayal of Norman Osborn in “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is also something to consider.
