What you need to know

  • A few days ahead of the launch of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Xbox and Windows PC, Bethesda and MachineGames have revealed its official PC system requirements and recommended specs.
  • The requirements are extremely demanding, with the action-adventure title requiring at least an Intel Core i7-10700K and an NVIDIA RTX 2060 SUPER for playing at 1080p. Also, having a ray tracing-capable GPU is a hard requirement since the game has partial ray tracing you can’t disable.
  • The rest of the requirements and recommended specs are similarly advanced, with some of the most notable ones being the need for an RTX 3080 Ti for 1440p High and an RTX 4090 if you want to play at 4K Ultra with full ray tracing.
  • To hit most of the performance targets, you’ll also need a hefty 32GB of RAM. Across the board, 120GB of SSD storage is also necessary.

As a seasoned PC gamer with a hearty appetite for action-adventure games, I must say, the system requirements for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have left me quite bewildered. My current rig, which boasts an RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and an i5-12600K, is no match for this seemingly indomitable title!

The specifications for the computer version of MachineGames’ eagerly awaited action-adventure game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have been revealed, and they are quite demanding. Given the impressive graphics of this Xbox and PC exclusive, I wasn’t expecting it to be a walk in the park when it comes to system requirements. However, the hardware demands outlined below are more severe than I had anticipated.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been keeping an eye on Bethesda’s latest updates, and here’s what they’ve shared so far about the system requirements for their upcoming game: The journey starts with an Intel Core i7-10700K and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER to guarantee a smooth 60 FPS experience at 1080p, even with the graphics set to Low. It’s worth noting that ray tracing-capable GPUs are non-negotiable due to Indiana Jones having partial ray tracing features that can’t be turned off.

To achieve a performance level of 60 FPS at 1440p High, the system requirements significantly escalate to a Core i7-12700K processor and an RTX 3080 Ti graphics card, and also boost the memory needs to 32GB from 16GB. For 4K Ultra, you’ll need an i9-13900K CPU and an RTX 4080. It’s important to mention that these requirements don’t factor in upscaling and frame generation technology like DLSS 3, but still… By the way, make sure your SSD has enough space because Indy requires 120GB of it. Goodness gracious, man!

To fully experience ray tracing for top-notch visual quality, the necessary hardware list doesn’t end there. For instance, if you aim to enable full ray tracing at a resolution of 1080p, it’s recommended to have an RTX 4070 graphics card, which is typically used for high-end 1440p gaming and comes with upscaling and frame generation. To achieve full ray tracing at 1440p High, you’ll need an RTX 4080, while to enjoy it at 4K Ultra, the expensive NVIDIA RTX 4090 (priced around $1,500-$2,000) is required. If your GPU falls short of these specifications, you’re likely to see poor performance.

frankly speaking, these specifications appear excessively challenging; it’s surprising coming from developers renowned for creating well-optimized and accessible games like Wolfenstein. Despite having recently upgraded to an RTX 4070 Ti SUPER graphics card, which is more powerful than the recommended RTX 3080 Ti, I am concerned about maintaining a stable 60 FPS on high settings due to my use of a 3440×1440 ultrawide monitor. This screen configuration is more demanding compared to standard 1440p panels. Additionally, my i5-12600K processor is one step below the listed i7-12700K CPU.

It’s clear that our choice to fully adopt ray tracing technology and make some aspects of it mandatory for players is behind the high system requirements we’re seeing now. Since the latest Steam hardware survey shows that just a tiny fraction of users possess a GPU equivalent to what’s recommended, I suspect this move won’t sit well with PC gamers.

These requirements also have me concerned about how the title will perform on Xbox Series X and especially the Xbox Series S, though it is important to note that console and PC graphics hardware isn’t directly comparable due to console-specific optimizations and architectural differences. Still, there’s valid reason to worry, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it runs terribly on even the best gaming handhelds, either.

You’ll discover whether Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is worth buying on December 9, but from my perspective, it’s advisable to hold off on a purchase until you’ve read reviews and assessments about its performance. However, if you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, you can start playing it right away without worrying about potential dissatisfaction with your purchase.

The action-adventure game titled “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” is set to release on December 9, 2024, simultaneously for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. A PlayStation 5 version will be available in 2025. Being an Xbox first-party game, it’s part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions. Those who purchase the Premium Edition of the game can enjoy three days of early access. For detailed pre-order information, please refer to our “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Preorder Guide”.
