Is Return to Paradise returning for season 2?

As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours binge-watching mysteries and crime dramas, I must say that Return to Paradise left me craving more after its captivating debut season. With its beautiful backdrop of Dolphin Cove, Australia, and a cast of characters that are as complex as they are intriguing, it has easily become one of my favorite shows.

*Warning: Contains spoilers for Return to Paradise season 1.*

The world of Death in Paradise expanded once again this year as Return to Paradise made its debut.

The six-part crime drama unfolds in the make-believe coastal community of Dolphin Cove, Australia, which is where Mackenzie Clarke, an ex-DI, spent his youth before relocating to London six years prior.

However, she unwillingly returned to Australia, as she was charged with altering evidence in a significant case. This predicament compelled her to confront her former fiancé, Dr. Glenn Strong, the forensic pathologist, whom she had deserted at the altar before her initial departure.

Throughout the series of events, Mackenzie yearned to have her name vindicated so she could return to her position at the MET Police. However, as her feelings for Glenn re-emerged and she found a comfortable pace, she started to ponder if London was truly where she belonged in the long run.

But are we heading back to Dolphin Cove to find out what’s next?

Read on for everything you need to know about a potential Return to Paradise season 2.

Is Return to Paradise returning for season 2?

There’s currently no word on the future of Return to Paradise.

Watch this space for updates.

When could a potential Return to Paradise season 2 air?

The first season of Return to Paradise arrived in September in Australia and November in the UK.

If season 2 does get the green light, we wouldn’t expect it to arrive until mid to late 2025.

For now, don’t forget to watch the Death in Paradise Christmas special airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this coming Sunday, 22nd December, starting at 8:30 PM.

The Beyond Paradise Christmas special will air on Friday 27th December at 9pm.

Who could return for a potential Return to Paradise season 2?

We’d expect all of the following to feature in the second outing:

  • Anna Samson as Mackenzie Clarke
  • Tai Hara as Glenn Strong
  • Lloyd Griffith as Colin Cartwright
  • Catherine McClements as Philomena Strong
  • Celia Ireland as Reggie Rocco
  • Aaron McGrath as Felix Wilkinson
  • Andrea Demetriades as Daisy Dixon

And there will also be a new raft of guest stars.

What could happen in a potential Return to Paradise season 2?

By the close of season 1, Mackenzie opted to revisit London once evidence tampering charges against her were dropped. Initially, she hesitated about departing from Dolphin Cove, but leaving wasn’t a joyful prospect for her either. In reality, she wished to stay there, and should season 2 be produced, Mackenzie would undeniably stick around in her hometown, at least temporarily. If not, there wouldn’t be much of a series left, would there?

However, let’s ponder about their future together. Glenn is currently engaged to Daisy following her proposal, but a predicament has arisen. Mackenzie unintentionally heard Glenn’s ex-partner expressing his belief that he may still harbor feelings for her.

It’s not unreasonable to assume that both Glenn and Daisy might not endure for a long time. However, one may wonder for how long will Glenn maintain the façade that all is well?

It’s evident that Daisy feels there’s unresolved tension between her partner and his former lover. Could she ultimately choose to end their relationship due to this lingering issue?

Will Mack and Glenn be able to advance their relationship further and indeed get married if they reconcile?

Season 2 can’t arrive quickly enough.
