As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of anime and manga, I was absolutely thrilled by Netflix’s successful foray into the live-action adaptation of One Piece. The first season not only surpassed expectations but also managed to keep me engaged, even amidst the wait for season 2.
As a diehard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about Netflix’s inaugural season of the live-action One Piece adaptation. This series surpassed all expectations with remarkable critical acclaim, and within mere weeks of its debut, it garnered an astounding 73.8 million views! Now, one of its talented actors has given us a sneak peek into when we can expect season 2 to set sail.
Ever since the premiere of season 1 in August 2023, fans have been eagerly waiting for more from the franchise, and there are plenty of ways to stay engaged till we finally get to see the next installment. This includes following the latest releases of One Piece manga chapters or figuring out how to watch the One Piece anime in a chronological order.
Meanwhile, one of its main actors has provided details about the release date of season 2, hinting at possibilities for seasons 3 and 4 as well.
According to Vincent Regan, the actor portraying Vice Admiral Garp, it’s hoped that One Piece season 2 will be out by Christmas in the year 2025; however, a precise release date hasn’t been set as of now.
Moreover, Regan offered another prediction that production for One Piece season 3 might start up shortly too.
The following information was gathered from an interview with Cerealkillerz at Vienna Comic Con 2024. Topics covered included Regan’s preparation for portraying Garp, factors contributing to the show’s success, and details about his various acting projects.
Approximately at the 3 minutes and 54 seconds mark, Cerealkillerz inquires about backstage information concerning season 2’s production and its progress from Regan. Remarkably, the performer provides extensive insights.
Regan mentioned that he has returned from South Africa recently. He’s wrapped up filming for season 2, and all the actions his character performed throughout the second season have been completed. They plan to finish off the remaining work for the show within approximately a month.
It seems likely that the series will be available on Netflix prior to Christmas of the following year, if all goes well, and I suspect they’ll begin filming Season 3 not long after that.
“I believe they are referring to the ‘Arabasta storyline’. I suspect it will span across two seasons.
It seems that Regan’s statements might be based on preliminary goals or information he received indirectly, so it would be wise to approach his claims with some skepticism.
Indeed, it’s worth noting that even though the Welsh actor completed filming his part, the production process continues in South Africa.
2025’s Christmas season or perhaps earlier December seems like a fantastic goal, but there could always be unforeseen obstacles during the rest of production or post-processing that might cause delays, potentially altering the timeline before any formal announcement is made.
The third season of the live-action adaptation of One Piece on Netflix hasn’t been officially announced yet, but given the extensive source material they aim to cover, it’s not shocking that another round of episodes might be needed to conclude the ongoing storyline.
It’s been made clear for some time now that the story arc of Arabasta, specifically, would find its way into the narrative. This is evident by the announcement of actor Joe Manganiello joining the cast of One Piece season 2, playing the character Crocodile, also known as Mr. 0.
After the Arlong Park storyline concludes in season 1, there are five smaller storylines that occur before the Straw Hat Pirates reach Arabasta: the Loguetown saga, Reverse Mountain saga, Whisky Peak saga, Little Garden saga, and the Drum Island saga. These stories unfold in both the anime and manga versions of One Piece.
In truth, these consist of brief story arcs, with each arc lasting approximately between three to 14 episodes, which usually run for about 20 minutes each, in the context of this anime series.
It’s certain that Drummer Island will almost definitely appear, given the September 2024 announcement that Tony Tony Chopper is joining the series.
A key member of the Straw Hat crew and one of the cutest characters around with a big arc, at least Drummer Island will need to be covered as it was in the anime and manga to have the same impact.
Here comes our lovable physician from the Grand Line – Chopper! Despite his small stature, his compassion matches the grandeur of the journey that lies before us! 🐳⛰️

Despite this, the success of the first season of the Netflix One Piece series can be attributed to its dedication to the original content and the engaging storylines presented through its various arcs in particular.
Under the watchful guidance of the original manga artist, Eiichiro Oda, the adaptation managed to compactly represent the initial 100 manga chapters and 61 anime episodes from the East Blue Saga into a series of eight episodes, each approximately an hour long.
Instead, it’s worth noting that season 1 made some artistic adjustments to expedite the primary storylines from the anime and manga.
Given that the Arabasta Saga is significantly longer than the East Blue Saga, it’s reasonable to assume that Netflix, Oda-sensei, and showrunner Joe Tracz decided that a larger number of episodes would be necessary to accurately portray this upcoming saga as opposed to the first one.
It’s particularly relevant now that they are aware the series enjoys a significant fan base, allowing them to secure a more substantial budget.
As a passionate fan of One Piece, I can’t help but feel elated at the prospect of consistently receiving top-notch content from Netflix. Here’s to more thrilling adventures on the Grand Line! Keep ’em coming, Netflix.
