As I delve into the remarkable lives of the Duggar family, my heart swells with admiration and awe for their unwavering faith, resilience, and devotion to each other. Each member’s story is unique, but they share an extraordinary bond that transcends the ordinary.
Jana Duggar knows how to celebrate.
Three months following the wedding of the former star of 19 Kids and Counting with Stephen Wissmann, she gave a peek at her exhilarating bachelorette party in Santa Barbara, California, which included sisters Jinger Duggar, Jessa Duggar, and Joy-Anna Duggar before her wedding.
Before the party could even begin, Jana had a run-in with the law, noting in her Nov. 27 YouTube vlog, “Running late for our flight and I was accidentally speeding!”
Fortunately, we managed to escape with only a caution as we made our way towards the airport. There, I shared excitedly, “We’re taking off for sunny California to reunite with Jinger and celebrate her bachelorette party for a few blissful days!
On the weekend, the oldest Duggar daughter’s get-together was a family-focused event. Not only did several of her siblings join, but also mom Michelle Duggar. They initially gathered at Jinger’s residence, enjoying playtime with their nieces and nephews. Later, they moved to an awe-inspiring rental property offering breathtaking mountain views. In a word, she called it “Beautiful.
What transpired in Santa Barbara? The gathering participated in a festival and explored an amusement park prior to Michelle apparently apprehending a pickpocket. As Jana put it, “Someone’s wallet was stolen,” but then “Mama Bear pursued the culprit and demanded he return it.
During their bachelorette chat, the mother of 19 playfully remarked, “I bet his mother wouldn’t approve one bit!
All things considered, Jana was absolutely thrilled about their adventure, expressing, “I had a blast in California. The next big event on my calendar: the wedding.
According to People, Jana and Stephen’s August wedding in Arkansas was a magical affair, graced by around 500 attendees.
The 34-year-old expressed that she had always imagined this event as something every girl dreams of at some point, and now that it’s approaching her wedding, she said it seemed unattainable earlier. However, as the reality of the situation is becoming clearer, she finds herself amazed, acknowledging that this dream she held for so long is actually coming true.
She exclaimed with delight, “The location itself is already so beautiful and enchanting that I didn’t want to detract from it too much.” She went on to describe, “The gentlemen will be dressed in black suits, while the ladies will don champagne-hued dresses. The decorations will consist of simple white flowers and lush greenery.
Naturally, prioritizing our loved ones, my partner and I reveled in the company of hundreds, making our celebration truly special.
Originating from larger families, consisting of 13 siblings (including Wissmann), we cherish the opportunity to reunite and celebrate special occasions such as this one. To have everyone present is truly significant.
Now, read on to learn more about the Duggars’ big family tree.
Originally a pair of teenage sweethearts at high school, these parents of nineteen children (and grandparents to more than three dozen) began their journey together.
Michelle shared an experience where she felt “rescued” at the age of 15. One evening, Jim Bob was carrying out visits to homes as part of his duties for his Baptist church. A friend of his hinted that a girl from school who had recently found faith and was a cheerleader lived in the Ruark family’s home, so Jim Bob decided to pay them a visit.
They asked Michelle to attend Sunday school at their church, and Jim Bob mentioned that he hoped they could serve as each other’s spiritual guides – although it seems that Michelle didn’t find their initial encounter particularly noteworthy. A year later, she applied for a job at the frozen yogurt store owned by Jim Bob’s parents. As Michelle recalled in a letter posted on their family blog for Jim Bob’s birthday and their 33rd wedding anniversary in 2017, “You stood behind the counter near the cash register when we first met, and you shyly introduced yourself to me. You were sweet, though I don’t recall much about that conversation except that you eventually asked me if I would attend your junior-senior banquet with you!
She spent the dinner with him at Shiloh Christian, but it wasn’t until they continued their conversation about the Bible for hours at her parents’ house afterwards that she felt a strong connection. As Michelle puts it, “our hearts became intertwined from there.” They both graduated high school in May 1984 and got married in July. At the time, she was 17 and he was 19 years old.
The couple dedicated themselves to God and each other for the long run.
Jim Bob previously held the position of a state legislator in Arkansas, serving from 1999 to 2002 in the sixth district’s seat at the House of Representatives. During this time, he was the vice chair of the Corrections and Criminal Law Subcommittee. In 2002, he attempted a run for the U.S. Senate but lost in the primary. Another attempt to become the Republican nominee for Arkansas State Senate District 35 in 2006 also ended unsuccessfully.
They, along with Michelle, who are both real estate agents with valid licenses, have been actively involved in conservative movements – a part of their lifestyle that earned them the admiration of “19 Kids and Counting” (initially titled “17 Kids and Counting” when it debuted in 2008) as supporters, but also drew criticism from some quarters.
As of October 2024, they were grandparents of 33 with three on the way.
The oldest child in the Duggar family, Josh Duggar, was born on the 3rd of March, 1988. Similarly, he has taken up the role of a conservative advocate, working to support the Family Research Council’s causes.
In 2015, he resigned following the exposure of police records from his past which indicated that he had been falsely accused of inappropriate behavior towards multiple girls, including his sisters Jessa and Jill, during his teenage years. Later in June of the same year, Jessa spoke publicly on Fox News defending her brother, stating that the harsh labels being used against Josh were “exaggerated and untrue; people get upset when I say this, but I can assert this because I was one of the alleged victims.
His wife stood by him even after he confessed to infidelity. When he entered a rehabilitation facility in 2016, his parents viewed it as the initial move towards recovery and healing. They are parents to three children – Mackynzie (born October 8, 2009), Michael (June 15, 2011), and Marcus (June 2, 2013). When the scandal arose, Anna was expecting their fourth child, Meredith, on July 16, 2015, the same day TLC canceled 19 Kids. Their fifth child, Mason Garett, was born on September 12, 2017, followed by Maryella Hope on November 27, 2019, and Madyson Lily, their seventh baby, arrived on October 23, 2021.
Back in April 2021, Josh was accused and indicted for two separate offenses related to child pornography – receiving and possessing it. He denied these charges by pleading not guilty on both accounts. In the year 2022, he was found guilty and received a sentence of 12 and a half years in prison.
Not long after Josh’s birth, Michelle experienced another pregnancy, unfortunately resulting in a miscarriage. As they mourned this loss and sought wisdom, they discovered they were expecting twins.
She expressed that it was a particularly fortunate event,” she shared with Love to Know. “It seemed like God was offering us extra support during this time of learning. It’s quite uncommon, as I nurse my infants, but my children are very close in age. This is just another instance of the unique ways God has chosen to shape our circumstances.
John David Duggar and his twin sister Jana Duggar were born on Jan. 12, 1990.
After many years of knowing one another, primarily through mutual acquaintances, they met at a church gathering in Oklahoma where Abbie resided. Following a swift romance and a brief period of engagement, John David and Abbie-Grace Burnett exchanged vows on November 3, 2018.
I’m thrilled to share that on the 7th of January, 2020, I was blessed with a beautiful daughter whom we named Grace Annette. More recently, in September 2022, I was overjoyed to welcome another precious bundle of joy into our lives – my son, Charlie Duggar.
On their 30th birthday in January 2020, Jana wrote a heartfelt message to John: “Ever since we were kids, people have wondered if John and I share some sort of ‘twin intuition.’ You know, the sensation where you feel what the other person is feeling or sense what they’re thinking…Well, John, I’ve always said no—but now, with little Gracie’s birth, I truly experienced all the joy you felt, so it seems that bond might be real after all!
Jana added, “It’s such a delight to see you and Abbie in your parental roles! You two are instinctive! The very traits that have made you an exceptional sibling will undoubtedly make you a fantastic father.
Jana observed as 11 out of her 18 siblings tied the knot before herself, eventually falling in love with Stephen Wissmann – whose sister Hannah is married to Jeremiah, one of her own brothers. Despite some acknowledged annoyances, she believed it was all part of a divine plan orchestrated by God.
In August 2024, just before her wedding, Jana explained to People that she hasn’t always grasped the overall plan, but she trusts that God knows what’s best for everyone. Consequently, she decided to get married later in life. She added that every person’s story unfolds uniquely, and if we were all identical, life would be quite uneventful.
Born on May 17, 1991, Jill Duggar Dillard found her love story mirroring that of her parents’. It was during Christmas in 2011 when she crossed paths with Derick, who lived approximately 45 minutes away from the Duggars. This chance encounter took place as he dropped by their residence while caroling with his church group.
Jim Bob acted as a cupid, facilitating a connection between Jill and Derick. They grew fond of each other through emails and video calls. In November, Jim Bob and his daughter paid a visit to Derick in Nepal, and their bond deepened further. By February 2014, Derick had proposed to Jill, and they got married on June 21, 2014. They are blessed with three sons—Israel (born April 6, 2015), Samuel (born July 8, 2017), and Frederick (born July 7, 2022).
In April 2024, Jill revealed they experienced a miscarriage when expecting their first child, a daughter with Derick.
In the Amazon Prime Video documentary titled “Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets“, which debuted in June 2023, Jill and Derick pondered over the disputes and religious views connected to Jill’s family, as depicted within the series.
Jim Bob and Michelle’s fifth child, Jessa Duggar, was born Nov. 4, 1992.
Jessa became acquainted with Ben at church, and he started wooing her in 2013 – an antiquated method of courtship that was quite novel to many spectators. The couple didn’t discuss their past relationships before they got engaged, so Jim Bob clarified to People magazine, “Courting involves getting to know each other in a group setting, with both families spending time together and the couple establishing shared goals to decide if they are destined for marriage. Dating typically involves two people spending time alone, which can sometimes lead to a more intimate relationship.
In August 2014, Ben asked for Jessa’s hand in marriage and made the proposal. They sealed their union by holding hands for the first time, getting married on November 1, 2014. When Jessa was pregnant with their first child, the show “19 Kids and Counting” was terminated, and TLC aired a special about sexual abuse, involving Jill and Jessa, to educate viewers further on the topic. That winter, Jessa and Jill became the stars of their own show, titled “Jill and Jessa: Counting On.” This program eventually transformed into “Counting On,” featuring other Duggar siblings as well.
During November 5, 2015, and February 6, 2017, Jessa and Ben had sons named Spurgeon and Henry respectively. Ivy Jane was born on May 28, 2019, followed by Fern in July 2021. In the holiday season of 2022, Jessa experienced a miscarriage, but she later gave birth to her fifth child, George, in December 2023.
The sixth Duggar child, Jinger Vuolo, was born Dec. 21, 1993.
Jinger and Jeremy first met while performing ministry work in Laredo, Texas, and began dating in 2016. They tied the knot on November 5, 2016, which also happened to be the nephew Spurgeon’s birthday. Given that they were part of a family of 19, it wasn’t long before there were rumors swirling about a possible pregnancy.
In her appearance on a June 2017 episode of Counting On, Jinger expressed that it’s likely they will continue living in Laredo and carrying out their ministry. Their main goal remains to serve the Lord in whatever capacity they can.
Back in July 2018, their little girl named Felicity was born. Earlier in that same year, they shared the news that Jinger was expecting again, but tragically had experienced a miscarriage the previous autumn. Fast forward to November 2020, and they were blessed with another daughter, Evangeline Jo.
Jinger and Jeremy shared in October 2024 that their third child is due in March 2025.
Born on January 20th, 1995, Joseph Duggar found himself proposing to Kendra, whom he had come to know through church, during the romantic backdrop of his sister Joy-Anna’s wedding in May 2017. Their courtship had been brief, spanning only a few months prior to this special occasion.
Joseph confessed to People magazine that he was indeed apprehensive leading up to the proposal, yet he wasn’t worried she would decline because she had expressed, “I’m simply waiting for you!” Following his question, Kendra reacted with immense joy and astonishment. She shared, “I am so elated and flabbergasted. There are numerous things I want to express, but all I can say is shocked.
Since then, they have added four children to their family: Garrett, born in June 2018, Addison, born in November 2019, Brooklyn, who came along in February 2019, and Justus, born in May 2023.
Eighth in line, Josiah Duggar was born on Aug. 28, 1996.
A mere few months following the public revelation of his romance with Lauren, the pair declared their engagement in March 2018. As he shared in a statement, the location where he proposed to her was the very same spot where her parents got engaged. This property carries a lot of family history, making it a particularly significant place for Lauren.
In a video shared on their blog, Michelle, who is set to be Lauren’s mother-in-law, expressed her affection by saying, “Lauren is truly a treasure.” Jessa and Ben added their congratulations as well, along with chocolates shaped like X’s and O’s. Waving the sweet treat enticingly, Michelle hinted, “I think you might want to wait for your first kiss on your wedding day, but if you visit us, we have a little reward waiting here…
Back in the summer of 2015, my romantic journey with Marjorie Jackson took an unexpected turn and we chose different paths. Reflecting on our past, I shared with People magazine in March 2016 that our time together was enjoyable. We were simply attempting to navigate life according to God’s guidance. Unfortunately, Marjorie didn’t feel it was the opportune moment, so we took a brief break from our relationship.
On June 30, 2018, they got married, and as they shared with People, their wedding day was simply perfect. Their first child, Bella Milagro, arrived on Nov. 8, 2019. The name means “miracle baby,” a fitting tribute after the couple had experienced a miscarriage in October 2018. They were blessed with another daughter, Daisy, in 2022, and a son, Ezra, in May 2023.
Ninth sibling Joy-Anna Duggar was born Oct. 28, 1997.
She had been acquainted with Austin Forsyth for fifteen years as a friend prior to him expressing romantic interest. Following this development, they moved swiftly. He popped the question in February 2017, and they tied the knot on May 26, 2017, at Cross Church in Rogers, Arkansas – the same venue where Joseph proposed to Kendra.
Joy-Anna and Austin have had three children: Gideon Martin Forsyth born on February 23, 2018, Evelyn Mae Forsyth born on August 21, 2020, and Gunner James Forsyth born on May 17, 2023.
On December 30, 1998, Jim Bob and Michelle welcomed their twin sons, Jed Duggar and Jeremiah Duggar, into the world.
In February 2017, it became known that Jed was interning at the state capitol where his father used to work, for the Arkansas House of Representatives. At just 21 years old, he later ran as a candidate for State Representative in District 89, promising to prioritize Springdale’s conservative values. After a year of courtship, Jed married Katey Nakatsu in April 2021. They have since welcomed their firstborn son, Truett, in May 2022, and their daughter, Nora Kate, in June 2023.
Jed and Katey announced in July 2024 that they have twin girls on the way.
Jeremiah, a qualified aviation trainer, is wed to Hannah Wissmann and they have two daughters – Brynley, who was born in December 2022, and Brielle, who arrived in February 2024.
No. 12 Jason Duggar was born on April 21, 2000.
In January 2017, according to the Daily Mail, Jim Bob assisted Jase in purchasing a $33,000 property requiring repairs in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, approximately 30 minutes from the Duggar family estate. Subsequently, he established his own construction business.
He went Instagram official with girlfriend Maddie Grace in May 2024 and the two married in October.
Charmed No. 13, James Duggar was born July 7, 2001.
He doesn’t have a public romantic relationship yet, but he’s very loving towards his many nieces and nephews.
On his 19th birthday in 2019, mom Michelle praised James as the “cool uncle” and mentioned that all the younger boys in the area admire him and aspire to be like him. James is exceptionally talented, as he could do almost anything he imagined. As a child, we often found him tinkering with household appliances, fixing them, understanding their workings, and occasionally making some unique modifications!
This year, James dedicated himself to earning his Commercial Driver’s License, and now he’s a skilled operator of large trucks and heavy equipment. We’re excited to see where life takes him next, guided by the plans of the universe!
No. 14 Justin Duggar arrived on Nov. 15, 2002.
And from the department of growing up so fast…
In September 2020, Justin made their relationship with Claire Spivey known to the public. They became engaged in November of the same year and tied the knot on February 26, 2021.
Born on May 23, 2004, Jackson Duggar, the fifteenth child of Jim Bob and Michelle, arrived with his older sister Jill by his side.
On his sixteenth birthday, mom Michelle commended Jackson’s wit and mentioned that she was well aware of his eagerness to obtain a driver’s license.
Johannah Duggar was born on October 11, 2005, which is why a family reality show titled “16 Kids and Moving In” was originally produced about her family.
Michelle penned down, “This girl is full of life and enjoys socializing, and she takes great delight in meeting new people,” on her 16-year-old child’s 15th birthday in 2020. “Her younger siblings find her simply amazing, and I couldn’t be more thankful to God for making me her mother!
Jennifer Duggar arrived on Aug. 2, 2007, then the baby of the family.
Their TLC show that premiered Sept. 29, 2008, was christened 17 Kids and Counting.
Now, OMG, she’s a teenager.
Michelle expressed, on her daughter’s 13th birthday, that Jennifer is reliable, devoted, and full of joy. Adored by her nieces, nephews, and often found carrying one around because they don’t want to be put down! Jennifer also cherishes animals deeply and diligently cares for her pets daily. Lately, she has been instrumental in nurturing a brood of seven tiny bunnies!
Here on the right, the penultimate Duggar child was born Dec. 18, 2008.
2019 saw Jordyn-Grace being affectionately described by her mother as a sociable young lady who treats everyone she encounters as a friend, and whose laughter often serves as one of the most delightful moments in their daily lives.
19th on our list is Josie Duggar, who is seen here with her niece Meredith. Born on December 10, 2009, she arrived three months too early and weighed just 1 pound, 6 ounces at birth. Consequently, she spent a considerable six months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Michelle posted on her baby Josie’s eleventh birthday in 2020: “Josie is like a whirlwind of activity! She hardly ever takes a break, from sunrise to bedtime.
