As a seasoned X-Men enthusiast with over two decades of comic book collecting under my belt, let me tell you, this latest crossover between the X-Men and Uncanny X-Men teams has me more excited than Gambit with a deck of cards! The appearance of the Eye of Agamotto in Gambit’s hands is a testament to the creative team’s commitment to weaving together the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the comic book world seamlessly.
In the second part of the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover, Gambit carries a distinctive artifact from the Marvel universe. This summer, thanks to Channing Tatum’s portrayal, Remy LeBeau, or Gambit, experienced a surge in popularity following his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s an exhilarating period for X-Men enthusiasts as the first post-Krakoa crossover, “Raid on Graymalkin,” commences. The cast of both X-Men and Uncanny X-Men will intersect in this event, and Gambit is determined to ensure that his team from Uncanny X-Men emerges victorious. What better way to secure a win than by employing an item often associated with the Supreme Sorcerer?
As a passionate gamer, I can’t wait to dive into an exclusive sneak peek of issue #7 of Uncanny X-Men penned by Gail Simone, with art by David Marquez, Edgar Salazar, Victor Olazaba, Matthew Wilson, and lettering by VC’s Clayton Cowles. The story unfolds an hour before the action ignites in “Raid on Graymalkin.” It’s all about Rogue and Cyclops hashing out strategies over a phone call. You see, members of our X-Men squad have mysteriously vanished and ended up at Graymalkin Prison – formerly the Xavier School for Higher Learning. Needless to say, we’re both on edge and eager to confront Graymalkin Prison’s warden, Corina Ellis.
The only problem is they are having a difference of opinion on how to best tackle their joint problem. Cyclops wants Rogue and her team to sit this one out, while his X-Men try to free their friends. He feels that if both teams attack Graymalkin Prison, it’ll only cause bloodshed. Plus, it’ll come off as an act of war, and mutants are in a very precarious place after the Fall of X. Rogue isn’t hearing this, however, and offers a warning to Cyclops to not get in her way. Next, Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler get ready to leave with the new mutants they’ve taken under their wing. The only problem is how are they going to get from Louisiana to Westchester, NY? Luckily, Gambit has the mystical Eye of Agamotto on hand to open up a portal for them.
In the comic book series “Uncanny X-Men,” issue #1, Gambit snatched the Eye of Agamotto from the colossal serpent creature named Sadurang. He’s not frequently employed it since then, but the “Raid on Graymalkin” seems to be the ideal opportunity for him to use it again. The portal it opens resembles the portals that Doctor Strange and Wong utilize in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for long-distance travel. Additionally, the Eye of Agamotto functioned as the Time Stone. It’s safe to anticipate that when we start reading “Uncanny X-Men” issue #7, we will witness a meeting between Gambit and Cyclops’ team inside Graymalkin Prison.
Inside this peculiar prison housing mutants, you’ll find characters like Beast from the X-Men team, Jubilee, and Calico of Uncanny X-Men. Faces that seem familiar also make an appearance, such as Blob and Siryn. In “Raid on Graymalkin” Part 1, we discovered Corina Ellis was conducting experiments on these mutants. It’s uncertain what other hardships they may have experienced.
