As someone who has spent a good chunk of my life navigating the corporate jungle, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of shock and sadness upon hearing about the untimely death of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. I never had the pleasure of working with him personally, but his reputation as a respected colleague and friend to many resonates deeply within me.
The NYPD has shared fresh images of a possible suspect linked to the deadly shooting of former UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson.
One day following the incident, the photos show an individual clad in a muted-colored hoodie, exhibiting a smile in one of them. These snapshots were taken on December 5 from security camera footage at an Upper West Side hostel, where it is suspected that this person resided. According to NBC News, this information was reported.
On December 5th, the NYPD shared photos on platform X (formerly Twitter) of an individual they’re seeking for questioning, in connection with the Midtown Manhattan homicide that occurred on December 4th. The police believe this incident wasn’t a random act of violence but seems to be a premeditated, targeted attack.
On December 4, in the morning outside the New York Hilton hotel in midtown Manhattan, a yet unknown attacker fatally shot Thompson, aged 50. The deceased was en route to deliver a speech at UnitedHealth Group’s investor meeting when the gunman unexpectedly appeared and discharged multiple bullets, as stated by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch at a press conference that followed.
The NYPD has shared fresh images of a potential suspect linked to the lethal shooting of former UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson.
On the following day after the incident, the photos show an individual clad in a subdued-hued hoodie, appearing cheerful in one of them. These images were obtained Dec. 5 from security camera footage at an Upper West Side hostel, where it’s suspected that this person was residing. According to NBC News, this information was reported.
“Below are photos of a person of interest wanted for questioning regarding the Midtown Manhattan homicide on Dec. 4,” the NYPD said Dec. 5 in a message posted on X, formerly Twitter. “This does not appear to be a random act of violence; all indications are that it was a premediated, targeted attack.”
On December 4, just outside the New York Hilton hotel in midtown Manhattan, Thompson (age 50) was fatally shot by an unknown attacker. The unfortunate incident occurred as he was heading to deliver a speech at UnitedHealth Group’s investor meeting. Later on that day, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced at a press conference that the shooter had come up from behind and discharged multiple shots.
Multiple individuals walked past the suspected individual, yet it seemed as if he was biding his time for a specific person. Subsequently, the suspect took off, initially on foot and later on an electric bike, according to her statement. Notably, the attacker was last spotted in Central Park.
The security footage reveals a masked individual in a gunman’s attire casually striding along the sidewalk after Thompson, who was wearing a blue suit. This individual, an attacker, fired from behind, causing Thompson to trip. A bystander, startled, fled the scene. Following this, the attacker continued to discharge their weapon at Thompson, resulting in his collapse onto the ground.
At a news briefing, NYPD Chief of Detectives, Joseph Kenny, mentioned that there was a moment in the shooting incident when it seemed like the gunman experienced a malfunction with his firearm. He then proceeded to rectify the issue, and continued firing again.
He appeared quite skilled with firearms, as he swiftly resolved any issues or jams.
In Minnesota resided Thompson, whose loved ones include his wife Paulette Thompson and two sons. Tragically, he sustained gunshot injuries to his back and lower leg, ultimately passing away approximately thirty minutes later at the hospital following these wounds.
On the day of the incident, Kenny noted that the suspected gunman seemed to be a man with lighter skin tones. He was observed wearing a jacket in a shade of light brown or cream, a black face mask, sneakers with alternating black and white patterns, and a particularly noticeable gray backpack.
“The motive for this murder currently is unknown,” he added, “but based on the evidence we have so far, it does appear that the victim was specifically targeted. But at this point, we do not know why.”
At the scene, Kenny mentioned that officers found three live 9mm bullets and three empty shell casings from fired 9mm rounds. Interestingly, these spent casings were marked with the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose.” This detail was verified by a senior New York City law enforcement official to NBC News on December 5th.
