As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours harvesting crops and tending to my virtual farm in Stardew Valley, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation at the prospect of Eric Barone’s new project, Haunted Chocolatier. While the spooky charm of this upcoming game might seem like it could easily be mistaken for a sequel to my beloved farming sim, Concerned Ape has been clear that we should expect something unique and distinct.
Stardew Valley continues to captivate players eight years since its debut, sparking curiosity about what developer Eric Barone (alias Concerned Ape) might create next. Predominantly, he’s been dedicating time to additional free updates for Stardew Valley, but his other venture, Haunted Chocolatier, hasn’t been forgotten by gamers. First mentioned in 2021, this project has garnered less attention due to the monumental 1.6 update and related projects of Stardew Valley. However, with the recent console and PC release of the 1.6 update, Barone is ready to dive back into Haunted Chocolatier once more.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but notice the resemblance in art style between Haunted Chocolatier and Stardew Valley, but let me assure you, it won’t just be Stardew Valley 2. Instead, Barone has promised a chilling atmosphere, where players will manage a chocolate shop within a haunted castle, presumably interacting with the ghostly inhabitants as well. The gameplay trailer unveiled in 2021 offers a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come when this ghostly chocolate-making adventure materializes. The anticipation among fans is palpable for this upcoming creation. However, since some development updates in 2021, Concerned Ape has remained rather quiet about the progress on his new project.
During the 1.6 update, the spotlight once again fell on Stardew Valley, leaving some enthusiasts of the spooky chocolate-making aspect feeling disheartened that their dream might never become a reality. However, recently, Barone has provided fresh insights about the ongoing development of Haunted Chocolatier through an update on his blog. Indeed, the game continues to be developed!
Stardew Valley Developer Confirms He’s Still Working On New Game
In a December 4th announcement, Concerned Ape revealed that during his break, focusing on Stardew Valley, the character for Haunted Chocolatier had been assembled with “many” of its bones in position. He acknowledges there’s still significant work left to do, but he’s eagerly committed to continuing development on the game. Although it’s thrilling that progress is being made, the blog post does indicate that players will likely have to wait a while longer before experiencing Haunted Chocolatier.
Barone made it clear that the game will not debut via Early Access or rely on crowdfunding. These methods are popular, particularly among indie and cozy games, but the developer of Stardew Valley prefers to adhere to past successes and avoid excessive external pressure to complete the game within a specific timeframe.
In addition to the information provided about what’s coming up in the game “Haunted Chocolatier,” Concerned Ape’s post also includes some fresh images straight from the game development process. These snapshots, as is common with early game previews, might undergo alterations before the official release. However, they offer a sneak peek at a few charming creatures and a quaint little house, which provide a glimpse into how the game’s visual style will blend elements similar to and distinct from “Stardew Valley.
Currently, there’s no set release date for “Haunted Chocolatier” and we can’t expect regular updates. However, Barone wants to reassure fans that even though he might not be sharing updates about his new game openly, it doesn’t mean he isn’t actively working on it in private.
