Why Taylor Swift’s ex Joe Alwyn Was Barely in Miss Americana Film

As a long-time fan of both Taylor Swift and the NFL, I must say that following the journey of their blossoming relationship has been nothing short of captivating. From stadium performances to championship games, these two seem to be living a fairy tale that fans can’t help but root for.

In the 2020 documentary chronicling Taylor Swift’s life, her former relationship with Joe Alwyn was not heavily featured.

And, four years later, Miss Americana director Lana Wilson revealed why.

At a Nov. 23 screening at New York City’s Museum of the Moving Image, she expressed that she had no desire to film because her personal relationships have been under intense scrutiny. She believes that given all she’s been through, it’s a private matter, unrelated to the film’s themes or her perceived circumstances during production. (Daily Mail)

As such, Alwyn—whom Swift dated from 2016 to early 2023—is largely absent from the story.

Wilson explained, “I sensed she was experiencing a deep, transformative period in her life, unrelated to her relationships. To be honest, I didn’t feel right about capturing that on camera. It seemed intrusive and awkward to me.

However, that’s not to say the Conversations with Friends star doesn’t make any appearances. Alwyn pops up in the middle of the documentary, in a scene that sees Swift running backstage after a performance and into his arms. Their embrace is also featured in the film’s trailer.

In addition, the artist behind “Cruel Summer” likewise shared insights about her romantic experiences while taking a break from the limelight post-2016. She mentioned, “I found myself deeply attracted to an individual who led a remarkably ordinary, well-balanced, down-to-earth life.

In essence, Swift and Alwyn’s six-year romantic journey was mostly under wraps, and they seldom graced a red carpet together. The only occasion they were seen together at a high-profile event was during the 2020 Golden Globes.

In June, Alwyn shared with The Sunday Times that, since the beginning, we’ve agreed to maintain privacy about our relationship’s intimate aspects. We didn’t intend to make it public or turn it into something for profit, and I don’t see any need to alter that choice now.

Swift has since moved on with boyfriend Travis Kelce, who she has been dating for more than a year.

Although they’ve never walked a red carpet together, these two have consistently demonstrated public backing for each other. For instance, the NFL player has attended multiple concerts of hers during her Eras Tour, and she, in turn, has been present at his football games. In fact, their affectionate displays were on full show when the Kansas City Chiefs triumphed in the 2024 Super Bowl.

Look back at their romance…

The romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce started in July 2023, as her Eras Tour passed through Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

As a big fan of Taylor Swift, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs aimed to give her a friendship bracelet bearing his number during the show. Yet, unfortunately, he couldn’t make the pass because of her pre-performance routines.

On his New Heights podcast, Travis expressed his disappointment that she doesn’t speak before or after her performances since she conserves her voice for the 44 songs she sings. Consequently, he felt a bit let down because he didn’t have the chance to give her one of the bracelets he had made for her.

Following his on-stage blunder, which Travis himself would later label as “purely metal,” Travis bravely took a chance and extended an invitation for the Grammy winner to catch the Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium.

He expressed on The Pat McAfee Show that he had made an offer: “I suggested it, I tossed the idea over to her,” he said. “I told her, ‘I’ve noticed your amazing performances at Arrowhead Stadium, maybe you could come watch me perform there too and we can see who puts on a better show.’ So, let’s wait and see what unfolds in the coming days.

At the time when Travis was initially presented to Taylor, he already had a mustache that he grew back in August, during training camp.

Later on, he remarked about that period, “For a while, my mustache and number 87 jersey were quite famous, and I was wearing them when I first encountered Taylor.

According to a reliable source familiar with the matter, by early September, Travis and Taylor were exchanging occasional texts and conversations.

“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”

Following Travis’ invitation, Taylor went to Arrowhead Stadium to watch Donna Kelce, the athlete’s mom, along with her and the Kansas City Chiefs as they played against the Chicago Bears. After the game, pictures emerged of Taylor and Travis showing affection at a nearby bar.

Initially, rumors suggested they met face-to-face for the first time, but later, the “Karma” singer revealed that they had already spent a substantial period interacting and becoming familiar with each other prior to their actual encounter.

As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

To show signs of their growing bond, Taylor invited her friends such as Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski to cheer for the Chiefs as they faced off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

It’s another clue suggesting that Travis might be “The 1”. Taylor has been growing closer to Brittany Mahomes, who is married to Travis’ good friend and teammate Patrick Mahomes, both on and off the football field during NFL games.

On October 14th, the couple unexpectedly joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, marking their television debut as a romantic pair. Not only did they make an appearance during the live broadcast, but they also attended the after-party for the NBC sketch show and had a private date at the Waverly Inn in New York City.

During a free week from football, Travis decided to journey to Argentina to attend Taylor’s Eras Tour concerts in South America. Not only did the professional football player get closer to Scott Swift, Taylor’s father, at the November 11th concert in Buenos Aires, but he was also mentioned favorably by Taylor on stage.

“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”

Following the performance, the artist from the Midnights concert could be spotted hastily approaching Travis in the backstage area and affectionately kissing him passionately.

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.

She shared with Time magazine, “I’m watching him pursue his passion, and we support each other. Others are present too, and it doesn’t bother us.” In contrast, she said, maintaining a secret relationship requires an excessive effort to keep it hidden from others.

On December 17th, the music icon made Travis’ game a special family event by inviting her father to support him.

Taylor and Travis celebrated their first New Year’s Eve together, exchanging a loving kiss as the clock chimed midnight on January 1st.

Taylor spent more time with Travis’ relatives, specifically Jason Kelce and Kylie Kelce, catching up during the Kansas City Chiefs match against the Buffalo Bills.

On the day the Chiefs clinched the AFC Championship, triumphantly securing their place in the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor met up with Travis on the football field. Afterwards, they joyfully locked lips in celebration and confessed their love for each other.

“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”

On February 11, 2024, following Travis’s leadership that brought the Kansas City Chiefs triumph on the field in Las Vegas, the duo sealed their joy with a kiss.

On February 12th, Taylor shared videos of Travis on social media for the very first time, playfully joking about their parents’ unexpected night out clubbing with the athlete following the Super Bowl.

Taylor first Instagram post with Travis included a selfie taken together, featuring Prince William, Kate Middleton, their oldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, backstage during Taylor’s concert tour performance at Wembley Stadium in London.

At the seventh Eras tour concert he attended in London’s Wembley Stadium, and being this his second show there, the NFL player made an appearance on stage to assist his girlfriend in performing “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart”.

Taylor attended the initial game of the 2024-25 season for the Chief’s team alongside Travis. This image posted by Chariah Gordon seems to depict a recurrence of a public display of affection (PDA) similar to one that happened in October 2023. Chariah Gordon is seen here with her boyfriend, Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman, in the photo.

The duo were present at the wedding ceremony of Karen Elson, which took place in New York City, where Lee Foster, the proprietor of Electric Lady Studios, was her partner.

The next day, the pair attended the men’s singles final match at the U.S. Open.

The two stepped out for a double dinner date with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds in NYC.
