As a long-time fan of EastEnders and someone who has closely followed Linda Carter’s storyline over the years, I must say that this festive season seems particularly bleak for our beloved Queen Vic landlady. The downward spiral she’s been on since last year, culminating in the tragic events of last Christmas, has taken a toll on everyone, especially her son Johnny.
It seems that Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) might have a dismal holiday season ahead, as her efforts to quit drinking prove unsuccessful on the soap opera EastEnders.
Since last year, the pub owner at The Queen Victoria has been experiencing a steady decline in her situation. This unfortunate trend took a turn for the worse when she was involved in the tragic incident of killing Keanau Taylor (Danny Walters) over the Christmas holidays, an action taken to protect Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).
Johnny (Charlie Suff) feels deeply saddened as his younger sibling, Ollie (Harry Farr), reveals unsettling aspects about Linda’s inebriated actions.
When Johnny speaks to his mother, she responds by becoming angry with him and preparing to move in with Sharon, who assures Johnny that she will handle Linda’s issues on her own.
After an unpleasant run-in with Keanu’s angry sibling, Bernie (Clair Norris), Linda discovers that she inadvertently allowed burglars access to Sharon’s home by failing to close the door behind her.
Despite her error, Linda continues to drink, but hope is on the horizon when recovering alcoholics Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) offer to go to a meeting with Linda.
Johnny is thrilled when Linda agrees, but he soon realises that she’s already plotting how to get her next drink.
In my opinion, it appears that Johnny has reached his breaking point, as he forcefully ejects Linda from The Vic. As the evening deepens, Linda steps out into the cold night air, and upon her mother Elaine Knight’s (Harriet Thorpe) return home, she is filled with despair, delivering an stern ultimatum to Linda.
Linda selects the bottle again, and subsequently, she steps out once more under the cover of night, leading to another potentially hazardous evening of heavy drinking.
What will happen to Linda now?
In simple terms, “EastEnders” will broadcast relevant scenes starting from Monday, 9th December. The consequences of Linda’s tough choice will be revealed a week later, beginning from Monday, 16th December, 2024.
